47re Hd?

My truck (see signature) has the heavy duty 4 speed automatic tranny. What's is the difference between this one and the regular autos? I would like to know this so I can determine how much I can bomb the truck without replacing the tranny. The tranny seems strong, especially when it shifts into OD. It takes over when it does. I towed 8-9000 lbs today up and down hills without shifting out of OD.

Thanks for the help,
97DodgeRam

Never knew there was such a thing?

What gears do you have, if I towed up and down hills with 9K on I would have to keep it well above 1500 RPM's to stay in OD. (not likely for me) Mine would be jumpy depending on the grades. I usually keep it out of OD unless I'm on relatively flat ground or can keep up my RPM's.

It's above 1500 RPMs. I think it's around 16-1700 RPMs. I'll have to check next time to be sure.

The 47RE is considered Heavy Duty compared to the 46RE that the gassers get, could be used as a selling point.
Everyone that has a stock 47RE knows that to be a marketing tool only,
and in no way are they HD.

You're 47re is just as fragile as any other stock ram with a diesel. You may be thinking of the 46re which is mated to the V8 gasser. As for bombing, seeing that you have 4.10 gears you might get by with another 50 - 75 HP considering that you tow fairly heavy. But don't count on it, many guys running stock trucks are finding that rebuilding is common with their tranny. It all depends on how you use your truck.

I don't think we have that power,
might try putting a tent of tinfoil over your keyboard, just in case.

I was thinking of adjusting the star wheel and adding a #10 plate. Would the tranny hold these mods? I'm sure it's a 47RE HD because it's listed under options on the equipment sheet thingy or whatever the sheet is called (the sheet that is on a new truck w/ the price, options, etc).

47RE HD is the standard automatic for the Cummins trucks. There's nothing special about it, other than it's what everyone else has for their stock slushboxes behind their CTD.
