47RE Duramax?

Chapter President
The real advantage for the 47RE is that its a band grab type of transmission. The Allison is a clutch to clutch but also is direct gear engagement. That is it has to clutch out, change gears, clutch in with every shift. Hense the de-fuel between shifts. Guys that eliminate the defuel between shifts blow them up in short order as the clutches cant take the heat and heavy torque load. The 47RE tranny is made to slip between shifts and is like a top fuel dragster in that you use clutch pressure between shifts to keep the RPMS up. The Allison can only shift so fast too.
If you had the Allison in the Dodge, the Cummins would have to have the defueled shifts too. But now with the 68RE and a real exhaust brake, who needs the weight? If you need the HD version, get the C&C and have the Aisin and be the like the Allison with a little more meat on its bones.

That would be nice, but unfortunately, the ECM/Computers used with 6.7 engined Dodge CTD CR Trucks are larger and faster than the computers/ECM's in the earlier 5.9 Dodge CTD CR Trucks. They say they can't be "retrofitted and reprogrammed" because the 5.9 engine components/computers and electronics don't have the capacity, programming, or computing speed for that to work with the 6-speed 68RFE.

I did a double-take, too. I always see the shortcomings listed for the Dodge and the tranny is usually listed first or second. Didn't know the 47RE is actually a strong drag racing engine. Who'da thunk it?
