47RE and 47RH Front Servo

47RE and 47RH Front Servo

DTT has developed an improved front servo for our automatic transmissions. The DTT link describing the new servo is:

http://www.dieseltrans.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=218

My experience with the servo and the later installation of the new servo design is the fourth posting at:

http://www.dieseltrans.com/phpBB/vie...hp?p=1072#1072
Re:47RE and 47RH Front Servo

FRONT SERVO

518 / 47RH / RE

At DTT we have been working on re-designing and testing the front servo for about 8 months now. Primarily this servo is to address the internal leakage for 2nd gear and for 3rd gear as the OEM factory transmission case gets worn down after time, Chrysler specifications calls for no more than 3 psi leakage. At the beginning of last year we bought 18 brand new Chrysler transmissions and pressure tested every last one of them, out of those 18 transmissions 10 of the18 leaked more than 5 psi. The remaining 8 were at 3 psi leakage.

We have been also been monitoring the transmissions coming out of vehicles in our shop. Not one of those transmissions had a leak less than 10 psi. Even after installing all new sealing rings when we re – tested the transmissions they still had a 6- 8 psi leak.

Of the hundreds of OEM transmissions we tested leakage was evident though leakage did vary above Chrysler specifications.

The cases and servo covers being worn caused most of the actual leakage. Think of it like this: Engine piston rings: After a while the engine cylinders and piston rings get worn down and cause leakage. Most high performance engines have file fit rings.

What DTT designed for your Dodge transmission is even better. We have designed a GAP LESS ring. You will find the high dollar race motors are now running gap less rings.

With our servo design we also doubled up on the rings. The OEM factory system uses a single metal ring with a butt cut, which separates 2nd gear apply and 3rd gear apply. The OEM design even if it’s working at its optimum will have an internal cross leak.

No matter how good your factory transmission case is or how good your OEM factory rings are the leakage is still taking away from the holding capacity of 2nd and 3rd gear that is why we designed the Gap Less rings as they that expand to prevent leakage in the future as well.

The DTT servo has a double ring with a special lap joint. No matter how many miles you put on or how many strokes this servo does you will NEVER have an internal leak in the front servo area, which in turn will strengthen 2nd & 3rd gear.

The other special thing about the DTT servo system is the servo cover.
It utilizes a bushing and a lip seal preventing any leakage through the servo cover. As the 2nd gear servo applies your band the center of the OEM factory servo cover gets worn down creating another leak. As the leakage increases your 3rd gear holding capacity will decrease. It is not a question of does your cover leak it’s a question of how much does it leak. This innovative DTT servo design is another step in the right direction for those Dodge Ram owners looking to get more life out of their transmissions.
