409 tubing or 304 ?
My aluminized 4" exhaust has a large hole on the axle pipe after 5 years of service and needs to replaced.Big price difference, but how well do the 409 ss systems hold up?Like i said I got 5 years or 40k of life out of the diamond eye aluminized, but really don't want to replace so soon.I figure the 304 will outlast the truck but very expensive. How bout the 409?

409 isn't that much better than aluminized.
304 costs tons more because of the high chromium content. It will also last forever....
All depends on how long you are keeping the truck, I'd say.

I bought a 409 system, it lasted 4years on my truck
we use a lot of salt on rds in winter. I bought a new
304 system from our store on this site.
All 400 series ss are magnetic, it will rust.
All 300 series ss are nonmagnetic, it wont rust.

My friend has a 304SS exhaust on his Chevy that we made up. its been on there for 5 years now and still looks like the day it was installed. My MBRP 409SS exhaust has some slight scale on it but has also held up very well. It does not look pretty though.

Only difference with 304 and 409, other than the nickel content, and resistance to rust.
304 is more brittle, and will succumb to fatigue from vibration and heat cycles, sooner than the 409 will.
Cost wise, depending how badly your systems rust out, 409 might be the better overall choice.

I have the diamond eye aluminized system on my truck, it's been there for a few years and still not signs of rust or rot. I sprayed mine with high temp silver before install. I do spray the underside of my truck off in the winter a few times to keep the salt from doing damage.

I think I'll just buy the 409 ss exhaust. The Diamond Eye Aluminumized is solid but holed out on the TOP of the axle bend??? I wash all the salt off the bottom laying on wet car wash bay floor.I really use it for snowmobile trailer pulling, most miles are done doing this.So that doesn't help much.
