fuel plate, injectors, upgrade the turbo (maybe a bigger exhaust housing will get you by), tranny. the resulting horsepower can vary a lot because the manuals will produce more power than the autos for the same upgrades (without the serious internal injection pump upgrades-i mean just a fueling plate, gsk, etc.).

Tom

mark, are your egt's in check? i buried the egt guage passing someone real quick

Cruising/mild towing (no hole yet :'( ) yeah they are "in check." I towed a 6K Goose with a early 70's 2wd F150 (maybe 3K) and I didn't break 1200. Keeping in mind that's only a measly 9,000 lbs. but I didn't get over 1150 running 70mph up a couple of steep grades. I have a 16cm housing coming to me as soon as Dodgeman01 gets off his butt! :
I'm sure had it been my buddies 9K goose EGT's would have been more, but also I haven't cut the 4.5" hole yet.
However when flat out racing I'm sure I could probably still bury the pryo.

Making 400 horses in a 12 valve is all off-the-shelf parts swapping and retiming. Pretty much any of the advertisers here can set you up for around 2 grand or so.

The areas you need to look at are injection pump for new fuel plate and governor spring kit, then the injectors, an ATS exhaust manifold to get the gasses flowing, and a turbo set up to get you somewhere between 36 and 40 lbs of manifold pressure. Then retime to take advantage of the fuel.

If you intend to run at the 400 horse level for any time, you should consider replacing the headbolts with studs, O-ringing the head, removing the bolt bosses from #1 intake, getting the head ported, and a good copper head gasket.

In any situation a 4" exhaust will be necessary, same for a good clutch and flywheel, or a top notch automatic built by one of the guys that know what they are doing with these transmissions.

Pius is a great turbo guy. Knows his stuff and has been doing turbos longer than I have been alive. At 65 years he still gets more done than I do. He wont steer you wrong on turbos.

Don~
