4000 gsk

i put my 4k gov spring kit in yesterday along with the 60 # valve springs, some things i noticed, truck runs like a raped ape but when it gets to around 2700 it starts sputtering real bad and white and blue smoking, it has less take off with the torque converter lock-in switch now then it used to have (runs faster with it off) and my tps is screwed up again (shifts out of 3rd and fourth constantly)i fixed that not to long ago with the instructions and set it a litle high so my converter would lockin later when it shifts to overdrive, i set the springs at .030 and .035 and adjusted my valve clearance the best i could, i noticed when i changed the valve springs some of the retainer clips on the valve seals were broke and some were not even on leaving me to wonder were they are and how long they have been gone and i burnt my new dip stick tube with a trouble light so i have oil coming out of the burnt holes in it as far as i can tell it should run real good when i get my timing set (next week) i just wish i could figure out why the converter locked in in second gear makes it run slower now (i almost got passed by a old toyota 4cyl 5spd tonight) and id like to know how the tps got out of adjustment, and for anybody fixin to put HD valve springs on be prepared for the last 2 cyls (time of my life) there hard but not impossible

my timings getting done next week i just can figure out why the tps would be out of adjustment and why it has slower acceleration with the converter locked in then when its not

I seen you called me, sorry I was upstairs. I think your truck runs better now with the switch off is because your thrnny thinks that there is a GAS ENGINE in front of it. The RPMs that your CTD is running is what the tranny was made for. I don't care what everyone thinks it is a gasser tranny. After I did my GSK it seemed like I put a new tranny in it I'll be home all weekend!

Isnt putting in a 4000 gsk really risky? I read on http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/94specs.html That "Destructive torsional harmonic resonance occurs at 4100 RPM" Isn't 4000, kind of close to 4100 RPM? Just a question....

Do you guys like your 4k with an auto, I herd or was told that the 4k was kind of a waste with an auto, I have a 3k, but am thinking of buying the extra spring to make it a 4k. Do I need to do the 60# valve springs if I do that?

Guys

I have a 4000GSK and I only see 3200-3400RPMs. The tranny works so much better at these RPMS then 2400 and lower. The tranny does seem like a new one and I have had no problems with it. As for the valve spring I don't know what to say I haven't seen 4000RPMs so I would have been alright without the springs but I thought that one day I might want a exhaust brake and doing the valve springs now will save me time and money later. I hate doing things twice and spending money twice. I would say do it all at once and be done with it. We all say that we arn't going to do any more BOMBING but we will never be done

This is just my $ .02 but I'm happy with the way I went.

if there's a harmonic at 4100, then it isn't at 4000...

I've got a 4k GSK in my truck, and I've only revved to 4000rpm once...

I've got mine at 17 and I have had no problems. I'm not the person to tell you the best setting because I've haven't done the testing like some of the other members. Advancing the timing is going to help your truck alot. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Right, Destructive torsional harmonic resonance occurs at 4100, but is that exactly exactly when it will happen? I just think that 4000 is rather close to messing your engine up? Personally, I dont think it is worth it to get within 100 rpms of death... Just my .02...
