4" exhaust sys and air sys
Planning on upgrading my 98 12v qc as Im pulling some pretty heavy laods. Have looked at 4" systems on ebay....is one better than the other???
1. One that sells diamond says theirs is better. Some stainless systems are as cheap or cheaper than alumizied. Was planning on alum sys....any suggestions on which is best?? would a small stack (run under bed) on end make it sound better?
2. Kinda got it down to the mega cannon or scotty. Are they worth the differance in price? Is the system 2 worth the extra money??
Next Im planning on adding US gear 2 speed (have 4:10) as im wide open at 75mph to increase fuel milage/wear and tear. Then #10plate, 3000# spring and up timing a little along with sb clutch and 1 3/8 input shaft(already have updated 5 gear nut).
Any and all suggestions much appreciated!!!!!!!!

Try http://www.protintnw.com/sa-main.htm for a real bargain on a 4" system. Build one from scratch and you can save even more. When you do one, go all the way and replace the turbo outlet and downpipe with the 4" components there too.
I have used both air cleaner and intake systems, and do not find any difference in performance between them. They both are much better than the OEM system.
If you are only getting 75 mph on your truck when it is at full throttle, check your timing. It sounds like it has dropped below 7.5 degrees if that is as fast as you can run. Take a look at your EGT when you floor it and hit the wall like that, if it is running around 1100 degrees, it is a sure sign of slow timing.
You did not mention it, but a pyrometer is the very first thing you need to install before you tweak or change the fuel plate. You will want to keep an eye on the EGT after the injection pump has been modified.

I just installed a Magnaflow XL 4" system from hottexhaust.com I believe that it was $399 delivered to the door, and comes with a 5" stainless steel polished tip. Mine showed up without the tip, but all it took was a phone call and they Fedexed it to me, N/C. It is the less expensive stainless, but it fits well and is turbo-back. It's a bit loud for my taste, but my daughter loves the sound.

Best aluminum system I have seen, quality wise, is DPP.

4.10 gears are killing you. might consider shopping around and see if you can change over to 3.55's. made a huge difference for my truck when i did it.
Get a good muffler witht he system. Mine was really nice after putting the muffler in the right spot. Oh yeah by moving the muffler up the exhaust and down the exhaust we could change the RPM range that drone effected me. finally found a spot after 4 different trial and errors that eliminated the drone in the RPMs that i used

Afternoon,
The muffler is the key!! I can't express it enough, so many of the systems out there are very inexpensive, but you are getting a hollow can muffler or one packed with base fiberglass material that will blow out ASAP.
We pack ours with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool, that gives it the good throaty sound and makes sure it sounds that way 5 years from now too. Call us if we can help you with any questions etc.

I had planned on buying an aluminized 4" exhaust system. But when I called the folks at DPP, and they shot prices on various systems, and the fact that I live in the road salt belt, I bought their installer series SS system which was close in price to alumunized. Plus the hangers were welded in place, vs. clamp-on style.
I was leary about installing a kit myself. The UPS truck dropped the system off at 11:20 on one hot humid day last August. I couldn't find anyone to help me out, so I went at it myself, and by 3 pm I was driving around having a blast listening to it! That included a trip, in another vehicle, to the local machine shop to cut the intermediate pipe to length on a roll-in bandsaw.
I'm happy with it. No drone, and interior cab engine noise at highway speed is much less compared to the OEM system. I should have done this mod a long time ago.

On my DPP system, long bed may make a difference, the drone shows at about 2200 rpm or a little over 80 mph. Not a biggy like the straight pipes...easy to live with. All CTD's seem to have them.

Not all CTD's have drone. I bought a monster exhaust from banks, 4" SS turbo back 5" polished tip, polished muffler and mounted to all factory spots. It is a bit pricey but I think its worth every penny, and best of all NO DRONE at any RPM.

Not to highjack your thread but I was wondering...
Maybe it is just me but it seems like a few of these 5" turboback sellers (at least on eBay) are confused. They call it 5" turboback and then in fine print say the downpipe is 4", however their idea of a downpipe is the pipe all the way to the muffler! A 4" system with a 5" muffler outlet is by no means a 5" system is it? The 5" systems truly are turboback aren't they?
