Question 4" or 5" Exhaust

Ok gettin ready to get an exhaust system, just dont know what to go with....YES i like NOISE, i have already cut my muffler and resonator off my 99, i would like to find a straight pipe kit with no muffler...just not forsure what size to get, and when you do go these aftermarker systems with a "flow through" muffler how do they sound? I want noise....all ive got for bombing is and edge ez, and a BHAF, and the straight stock exhaust....thanks for any info....Capn...

I recently put the Summit racing 4" kit on my truck and it is very throaty and, in my opinion, quite loud...it made a nice difference on EGT's and helped a bit with power. you can really hear the turbo throught the exhaust too.

I know a guy that has the 4" with the muffler on and it sounds just like a straight pipe. Now i am not sure if he turned it backwards cause i have heard you can do that.

Did you get the stainless steel kit, and was it the summit kit or the flowmaster kit? I've been lookin at both those....thanks

No Stainless, wasn't in the budget, got the turbo-back (not Flowmaster) regular old Summit kit, was around $300 if memory serves me, easy install and good fit...The "muffler" (if u want to call it that...) looks almost like a glass-pack. I know their are better systems out there but at the time my old exhaust bit the dust and this system fit the bill. No complaints though

Go to protintnw.com and look at a 4" turbo back system they have their, without muffler, means it comes with a piece of straight pipe instead of the muffler, it is not stainless though, never really care for stainless anyway, more prone to vibration cracks the sysem is I believe, $269.00

Well look at it this way

if you are gonna go twins and big power in the future, perhaps a less backpressure muffler is in ur works, or should be, i have a 4 inch. works well enough for me tho...

As far as your original question, I believe that it was found that the 5" system does not provide any additional benefit over the 4" system. I remember reading that either here or on TDR.

Capn, I was just checking out exhaust prices and quality recently and re-discovered WarpSpeed Performance and their 4" Dodge CTD exhausts. They have as follows: 4" MANDREL BENT ALUMINIZED STEEL SYSTEM WITH MUFFLER ELIMINATOR $259.00 SHIPPING $45. I haven't bought anything from them so I can't pass along any personal experience but their price is good and the quality appears to be there too. Their web site is http://www.warpspeedperformance.com./.

Let us know what you finally decide on. It's always good to hear what others have done and their experiences.

Rockyhud,

Not a bad price but for about 25.00 more you can get 100% welded hangers that drop right into place with the factory rubber mounts, a 30 inch muffler packed with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool, and a one piece tail pipe so it looks OEM and when the clamp rusts it doesn't get the tail pipe out of wack etc. We also have 4 to 6 inch clamp on 304 SS tips available to make the system look REALLY big as well as 4 to 5 inch and 4 inch turn downs as well. Give us a call if you have any questions about the MBRP products.
