4" or 5" Exhaust?

Getting close to the time I need to replace my exhaust system. Too much wheelin down in Baja (salt from the sand has toasted it).

Considering an aftermarket exhaust system to enhance the breathability of this Cummins beast. (note: I do have a Bullydog chip set installed). Looking for input, pros, cons on 4" or 5" exhaust. Wondering about the noise factor as well. (It's already hard enough to sneak out in the am for fishing, hunting or surfing....HA)

Thanks Guys..............

Honestly I would stick with 4"....... 5" is in my opinion to big for a close to stock ( besides the chip ) truck. Plus I'm not a fan of the looks of the 5" pipe.

IMO, no performance gain with 5" under 700 hp. It's just a difference in tone (deeper) and a lot more of it (louder).

Your call

i always thought the bigger size of exhaust you go then the lower and quieter it becomes then.Too much pipe for the motor's exhaust.I noticed that when tractor trucks get too big of stacks then its not too loud.

He had 12" stacks and i didnt think it was that loud but when i hear 6" or 8" then its real loud.

With the factory exhaust size straight pipe compared to a 5" straight pipe, what would be louder?

i got 3 inch only on mine now, and its louder then alot of others around here, not near as deep though. i cant decide to go 5 inch with a huge single tip, or 4 inch stacks, both would look and sound good, what some of your opinions?

5" is WAY louder than 3"!

my 6" tailpipe turns a lot of heads... 4" pipe looks small to me anymore... stock trucks come w/ 4" now days!

My truck has a custom system that uses the stock 3.5 inch pipe from the turbo to the cat. The cat was exchanges for a particulate filter and the outlet pipe is a 4 inch. It then goes into a new cat and exits the cat as a 5 inch. The back pressure of this system is the same as stock so it does not through any codes and the exhaust is pulled through the pipes due to the low pressure created bt the larger pipe diameters. The truck has shown insreased fuel economy and is quieter than stock.

If you want it to sound AWESOME and be loud then get 5". If you want a little more umph with not much more sound then go with 4"(cheaper too). I like the 5" better because it just flat out sounds AWESOME. It will turn lots of heads. People will think a dump truck is coming before they see that its just a pickup. I have it and love it, thats all I would have.

5 Inch

I just put a 5 inch on my truck with a 6 inch tip. You get a lot of people pointing and stairing. It sounds awsome, plus you egts will be a little bit lower.

.

People already tell me my truck sounds like a 18 wheeler and it only has 3 and 3 1/2".If it would make my truck sound like a bull hauler with straights that would be awesome. The only thing is that people say its too loud and that i have trouble sneaking up on people and everybody knows when i leave.

How else will the 5" benefit my truck other than loudness? How about performance gain if any? What about price?

If it just makes my truck louder and makes it sound more like a semi with straights then that would be awesome.
