3rd gen. turbo to 2nd gen.??

has anyone tried using a turbo from a 3rd gen. cummins on a 2nd gen. 12-v or 24-v???? just curious, would there be any benefit over a stock HX-35??? I like the larger outlet on the newer turbos, but they seem small in comparison to a 35???? just curious that's all, thanks, Dusty

I thought I heard somewhere that the 05's have a 60mm compressor wheel. I'm not sure, so when I'm changing the oil on my dad's I'll probably take a few measurements. I think the 05's also have electronic wastegate control. I think the exhaust housings are 9cm, but I'm not sure. I'm also interested since I haven't really heard much about 3rd gen turbos.

from what I have read the exhaust housing is a 9cm (and my 04.5 spools like it too) and the 600 series motors do have an electronic waste gate. The 555s were mechanical from what I remember. I have also seen that a bigger turbo on a stock 600 will gain another 25HP. They are restrictive to the system.

i know a guy that had a turbo from a 04 on his 96 12valve (180 HP)

he blew it up with 40+ psi! thats what he said.... not sure if i have to believe it! no injectors, just a turned up pump!

piers told me egts would be higher, cuz of the small turbine housing!

but yes it worked!

Yep... its a HY/ 9cm. I think it would be kinda pointless, unless you had no extra fueling.
