Re:3GSK or 4GSK

I would suggest with your mods to go in the 16.5 -17 range... I usually set timing to 15.5 -16.5 for milder mods ... 18 for those fueling a little more and 20+ for heavier mods.

Re:3GSK or 4GSK

If you go above 16 deg. you might run into headgasket problems in the long run, due to the increased cyclinder pressures. I know of several that have experienced this problem. But on the up side it gives you a good reason to pull the head and go to a ported and o-ringed head when it starts to leak ;D

Re:3GSK or 4GSK

GSK=Governor Spring Kit.

Them undervalved folks have mechanical pumps with mechanical RPM governors in them.

Us properly valved folks have computerized pumps with computerized RPM governors.

The spring kit lets the pump provide fuel past the factory limit of 2500(?)rpms.

I think I've hit the main points.

Re:3GSK or 4GSK

Have made up my mind....the plan will be to put in a set of 215 HP injectors which I already have and a new delivery valve...then a set of 4GSK springs along with the heavier valve springs...I found out this last week that I need more RPM's and horsepower after I pulled my (overloaded) 53ft trailer from PA to GA :-[ I didn't weight my trailer but my Dodge sure did squat down with the trailer hooked (I thought I had broken springs)

Hopefully I'll get time to do this soon I ordered the GSK's from Piers yesterday ;D

Pappy,

IMO, the delivery valves would be a waste of $ right now, you won't need them unless you go with much bigger injectors.
Mine is doing fine with the 370s!

You mentioned your truck squatting, do you not have the factory multi-leaf helper springs? I will have a set I'm going to pull off in a month or so... I have hauled immense loads with them, just a bit rough riding when heavily loaded.

Vin

Vin

I get the delivery valves at dealer cost...so as long as I am doing everything I'll change them too

My springs are ok my spring pack even has 2 extra leafs it was squating was because of the weight I was pulling I was very heavy on the gooseneck and lite at the rear (lumpers loaded me wrong)

Re:3GSK or 4GSK

Pappy,

That's great about the delivery valves! If I could get that good of a deal, I'd probably put them in too.

In my hauling adventures, I have also had unknown massive gooseneck tongue loads (when pulling about 24K, not including trailer weight). No problem except for rough ride and a little bending of the 3/4" steel plate the previous owner used to mount the ball in the bed. ;D

Vin

Re:3GSK or 4GSK

someone mentioned something about shifting low because of a stock drive train? I shift around 3000rpm with a stock drive train and the mods listed below (not many) When I'm raceing I dont even clutch (yeah its bad but its faster.. and piers said so!) As far as I understand the drive train can take shifting at higher rpm's no problem, aspecially if you dont beat on it.

My stock goviner was 3000rpm, my dads was 2900rpm. With the 3000 gsk I can rev to 3400 but it defuels around 3000 insted of 2700 or whatever.

Can someone go over the delivery valvs in a little more detail for me please? Also will I need them and or to adjust my timeing as I stand now? and in the future when I (hopefully) put a #10 and 370's in?

Thanks
Chris
