3850 DD Problems
I just installed a new 3850 DD w/1 3/8 input shaft on my 97....im having issues with the clutch disengaging. I purchased a new slave/master cylinder set up and that didnt seem to fix my problem....so i bought the HD slave/master cylinder unit from South Bend Clutch. Still, i am having problems...the cutch pedal is very weak. I can start the truck but it will not shift into gear....if i force it into gear it will just take off on me and if i depress the clutch it just keeps on drivin....I figured maybe during the installation that maybe my shift fork somehow didnt seat on the little ball on the bell housing....i popped off a rubber access cap on the back side of the bell housing adapter and ran an inspection camera into it and found that the shift fork was perfectly seated on the ball....the slave/master cylinder unit i purchased from southbend clutch is NON adjustable....i am beyond stumped as to why my clutch will not disengage....any help would be much appreciated thanks

good call....ill give that a shot as well....id like to add that i used a steering wheel puller in place of the slave cylinder and ran it all the way in and back out again....the clutch will disengage and engage smoothly.....im leaning more towards the slave/master set up

just curious....is it possible that i installed the shift fork the wrong way....end for end....possibly installed the pivot ball side on the slave cylinder side? if so would that make a difference?

maybe not end for end, however, the fork does go in a certain way, or it won't properly disengage the clutch, even on a stock unit.
I do believe the part number on the fork goes toward the flywheel.
Someone correct me if this is wrong info.

right the part number is on the flywheel side....i am thinkin that i accidently installed the pivot ball seat on the fork on the slave cylinder side....and the slave cylinder seat on the pitvot ball....there is def. a difference in the bend on the shift fork....hopefully this is the problem

OK....i fixed my problem....for some unknown reason i was not getting enough throw from the slave cylinder rod to disengage my clutch...i had a buddy run the clutch while i used the inspection camera to check everything out....i was getting weak movement from the shift fork....i dont know if this was the correct thing to do but i extended the slave cylinder rod 1 inch and reinstalled it....clutch disengages and shifts like a dream now....PLEASE let me know if there will be any effects on the clutch since i did this

Just make sure when the clutch pedal is all the way up there is no remaining tension on the clutch fork(riding the clutch) You can flip the fork around(wrong way) and it will force the throw out bearing to sit at a stupid angle and cause noises and bad stuff to happen.

How did you extend the slave cylinder rod? I have the adjustable HD hydraulics from SB and I don't think I can lengthen that rod on mine, only the rod @ the pedal.
