3800dd or 3600dd

im buying a dd clutgh w/bronze insert for my 2001.
i will be pulling a few times in the summer and towing a box trailer probably a few times a month.
since i basically daily drive my truck, what will be the best of both worlds.
i want the truck to be able to shift easily, ive heard that super high pressure plates wont shift easy.
so................3600 or 3800?

I have the 3850 in mine, its a daily driver, and have towed with it. It is alittle slower shifting than my ofe. But it is getting better " got about 1500 miles on it" and it doesn't slip, If you are planing to sled pull with it I would go for the 3800.

I have the 3612 ,I believe ,it holds great.I would not want anything jerkier ,then what I have ,I sometimes wish i would have got the next one down,3200 I think, they say it ingages very smooth, mine bucks pretty good when taking off in 2nd gear,I have about 3k on mine so far,its not nearly as smoothe as the ofe that I had

do you think the broze insert in the flywheel makes it more driveable? do you need it? what is the insert used for?

I have the 3600 and for daily driving it is driveable. Stop and go traffic sucks though because its ten times harder to push in. Also jerks a lot if you don't rev the engine before taking off. I,ve never tried a 3800 but its probably pretty similar. You can't shift as fast but you can put the power to the ground with either one.

Go with the 3600, 3850 is pretty much a straight pulling clutch. Why didn't you come to the Fayette pulls?

I'm sure those 37's don't help. I've never driven a 3850, but after driving my brothers [Brian Lent] [who posted above] 3600, I wouldn't want any bigger for the street. That clutch jumps like a rabbit if you don't have the revs up.

I had a 3850 non sprung before and the clutch broke(wouldn't release) called southbend. Told them I had bought the clutch used and the problem I was having with it and they said to send it in. They asked what I was doing with it and they told me that the 3850 was more of a compention clutch that the 3600 would suit me better with daily driving the truck. They told me with the 3850 the plate load being higher is more wear and tear on it and really wasn't ment for daily driving. Went with 3600 sprung hub and haven't had any problems.

I've had both, and I would definately recommend the 3600. I haven't had the sprung hub designs in either but I would only imagine them to be smoother. If you're not running a big gear when trying to sled pull, you could honestly get by with the 3250, if you're not going to make pulling a habit. (Yeah, right.) Either way, get the sprung hub 3250 or 3600 depending on how you plan to abuse it.
