I did it with mine a few times until the stock clutch didn't like it anymore....
Now I need a new clutch, was going to need one anyways. I'm surprised it lasted that long with the extra power I have going to it, though.

Dual discs are the better ones to do that with. They will take the slipping better than a single disc. When I do it, bring it to 3000 rpm, and let out the clutch at a rate that won't bring the motor past 2500 rpm at full throttle. When I do it right, it works great. If I get off the clutch too quick, it will pull the engine down to 800 rpm or so and makes for a smokey show.

I have done many 3rds but 4th is a blast
Bring the ole tach up and then back down until its points straight down way past 4000 rpms then let her slip until you blow a drive shaft or the tires break loose for one heck of a smoke show going in all directionsMan I love my 12v

Ahh yes, glorious 3rd gear launches. They do this to really expensive clutches.
It still holds though . . .I'm not doing any more launches like that. I just don't ever want to buy a new one . . .
Oh, this is why I took the tranny out:
They are really fun, but the number of times you can do them are limited.
Take care,
Phill

I wish I still had pictures of my tranny, that is nothing. My nearly stock powered truck ate the tranny at 70 MPH pulling a trailer. It would only grind when I let off and let the engine do a little braking so I drove about 80 miles after hearing/ feeling the initial bindups. Needless to say, my tranny rebuilder reused three gears and the case. Everything else was toast.
