3 or 4K GSK Kit Installation
Hey guys,
I would really like to put a GSK on my truck. Problem is, however, I am not confident in my abilities to go that deep. I put a #10 plate in myself but when it comes to installing valve springs and a spring kit, I don't really think I am qualified. Should I do the 3 or 4K kit? Anyone know of any good performance diesel shops around my area (area code 38570)? Thanks in advance.

I would say that since you are just getting into it the 3k will be more than sufficient. You will not believe the Huge performance that this will give you! You will be pleased honestly!!I still remember when I did mine it was one of the best mods to date!!!

since you have an auto, i would go with the 4k. i LOVE mine, even had a friend turn his 3k into a 4k. do it once and forget about it. the gsk isnt hard to do but i would leave the valve springs to someone more qualified. your engine wont easily go past 3k with the 4k kit without some timing so you can hold off on the valve springs.

Thanks for the info. Do any of you know where I can get this done? I am not a dragster or anything like that. I would just like a little more ump. I have a small bumper-hitch trailer that I pull music equipment with, probably 3500lbs max. It seems that past 22-2300 rmps it just will not pull very hard. Would the 4k sprink kit allow it to pull harder past that? I do not intend to free rev it any. I do have the auto and if I could rev pretty freely to 3000 rpms I believe it would make a big differencr. Should I do the valve springs anyway if I go with the 4k kit? Thanks for all the information. You guys are great!

I'd say get the 4k kit. It has an extra spring over the 3k. If you remove that spring, you now have the 3k kit. My 24v currently has the 3k in it, and I've hit 3500 rpm in lower gears. Not sure how the 180 pump will react to them, but you will be happier regardless. Can't wait to get mine in my 12v.

If you put your own fuel plate in I doubt you would have any problems with a GSK kit. When the plate is out your ready to install the GSK. Here is a great set of instructions with pictures so you understand what your doing:

Just take your time and you'll be fine, it looks like its very tight but really its not bad at all.

94-95 has less fill time built into the cam of the pump, and some says the Gov weights are heavier. I've never weighed the weights, but the 94-95 need more spring tension to fuel enough on the top end.

i have a 4k in my 97 auto and i set 5clicks total and its super touchy and unless you are doing a burnout, free revving or its wet outside you won't be able to go past 3k or 3200 without adjusting shift points. but it deffinetly makes a huge difference, and for only 225 dollars for one from piers with 12hd valve springs how could you go wrong.
