Do any 2002's have vacuum lock 4wd?????

"Correct, late 02 and up have no CAD, they are shifted in and out of 4x4 solely by the T-case. That is why there is a sticker under the hood saying you must grease the driveshaft every oil change, because the front shaft is always turning. Only way to get 2lo out of them would be the Dynatrac conversion or similar."

I just checked again and my 2002 Ram2500 has a 03/2002 build and does not have a vacuum line off the front axle trasferr case. Also does not have a sticker that says, you must grease the driveshaft every oil change, under the hood as referenced above. My owners manul says the front axle is a DANA. There is a hose coming out of the transferr case ("front pumkin") that looks like a fill hose. It comes up into the engine compartment and just has a stop-plug on the end of it.

I am no mechanic but did just install the TC lockup mod, and change the tranny fluid and filter.

If there's no vaccum tube and it says grease the driveshaft at every oil change then that means that you don't have the CAD on your truck.

Maybe your sticker is missing, or maybe it was just the 03 and up that had it. The 02's are Dana axles, the only year of a non CAD Dana, because 03 and up are AAM.

Also, the "front pumpkin" and t-case are two entirely different things. The front pumpkin is the differential housing on the axle and the t-case is the gearbox behind the transmission that transfers power to the front axle. The "fill hose" is actually the differential vent tube, it is raised into the engine bay to keep it above the water line in off road situations. The correct way to fill the differential and t-case would be to find the fill plugs and fill them within 1/2" of the bottom of the hole. Basically, stick your finger in and if the fluid does not end up on your finger it is too low.

Thanks, that makes sense as I do have a DANA axle. Also the vent tube makes sense as it is not really accessable for filling. You know your stuff.
Sure was looking forward to that "low cost" 2 wheel low option though.

One last question for a full time Rv'er. Is my Truck/Tranny better off staying in 2Whi while backing-up into an RV spot from asphalt, or being in 4Wlow. In other words am I more likely to damage the Tranny in 2Whi, or the other components in 4Wlow?????

Tough question. The 4lo should be easiest on the tranny, but the dry pavement and tight turning (potentially) is tough on the front axle/driveshaft and t-case. Pick your poison, unless you are able to stay reasonably straight.

Well yes....but you would need to just take your fnt drive shaft out.

'Nother words....your truck doesnt have the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) that the 2nd gen dodges had. So the only way for you to get 2wd L is to just take the drive shaft out when you needed it. I would think more trouble than its worth......

I did the same thing but with a dedicated Grainger 6JJ43 solenoid. Here was my fix:

The vac solenoid I used is off of I believe an 87 RX7.. The solenoid is part of the emissions system... RX7 nuts call it the rats nest and more often than not pull it all off.. about 6 or 7 solenoids per engine..

The solenoid is perfect for the 2LOW because after closing off from the vac source it vents to atmosphere through a small filter to remove the vacuum from the line going to the t-case... Oh ya and its cheap..

I would love to do this mod. The 87 RX7 has alot of vacuum solenoids on it. Can someone give the exact name of it, to pick up at the parts store. I under stand that the solenoid needs to be normally open to work right, I have only found the normally closed ones.

Just make sure you use the right type of solenoid. You want a 4 way body ported solenoid so one of the lines is always sucking (to keep it in 2wd or 4wd).

You can see the arrows cross when the solenoid is activated:

I believe all the solenoids on the RX7 are both NO and NC.. just depends which ports you use.. Should be able to look closely at my pic and figure the orientation out pretty easily with one from a parts store
