hey bnold, I got the solenoid you sent me a little while back. Thanks again! But, I've yet to hook it up with the combination of work, baby, and crappy weather I just have'nt gotten around to it. I just have a couple ???'s that I can't quite figure out from just looking at your pics.
The vac line...is the solenoid just spliced inline with an existing line with the 1' section you bought?
Electrical power....did you just run from the battery to the switch, then onto the solenoid?
I'm gonna try and get to this within the next week or two.

Ummm.. let's se yes and yes. The solenoid is essentially just placed in lkine from the supply to the transfer case vac line. The transfercase supply is actually normally hooked up just to the left of the solenoid in my picture, but I choose to tap into the supply a little further to the right (this allowed me to get rid of an extra 't' in the line). However, you can just unhook the transfercase vac line from the supply and attach a length of vac tubing in its place running to solenoid then attach the transfercase line to the solenoid....

Confused anybody yet??

As far as the power goes running switched power to the switch and then to the solenoid. The solenoid pulls very little power I see no need for a relay.

Pretty cool idea. Would we be able to go from low range 4x4 to 4x2 and back with it?? I am just wondering if the axle will go in and out while leaving the case in one position (does the air bleed off from the axle?)??
thanks

Good question
Shifting procedure to go into 2LO is:
Flip 2LO switch
Place transfer case in 4Low

To then activate 4x4:
Just flip the switch and vacuum will flow locking the front axle in

However! the switch will not deactivate 4x4 to go back to 4LO!!
Must start the process over by shifting back to 2HI...
Never been a big deal to me... only use 2LO on harder surfaces anyways, if I needed 4x4 Low I would be there already!!

I dont think the 3rd Gens have the "CAD" on the fnt axles since they are not Dana......So....your axle is locked 100% of the time unlike the Dana 60 CAD axles.......

Correct, late 02 and up have no CAD, they are shifted in and out of 4x4 solely by the T-case. That is why there is a sticker under the hood saying you must grease the driveshaft every oil change, because the front shaft is always turning. Only way to get 2lo out of them would be the Dynatrac conversion or similar.

When you're in 2 Low, the front diff is spinning and the two shafts disengaged by the collar will spin at different speeds. If one has any problems with sticking cad collar I'd say it may trash the splines. I suppose you'd notice it when it starts chattering. But again, you'd use 2 low only occasionally for a short time, right?

Well here it is all buttoned up! I still have not gotten any more shrink tube but this summer when I get some more I have to re do my wiring for the back up lights so I am going to hit all the projects that need such as this one and the lights. I mounted my switch with the safety cover just so it don't accidentally get flipped on. I made a L bracket at work that worked good once I had a drill that had a full charge

How to identify "late 02" for 2WD "Mod"????

The "BigNasty" said;

I have a June build 2002 Ram2500 and would like to install this "Mod". I do not see a stick under the hood as referenced above.
I am no mechanic but did just install the TC lockup mod.

What is is easy whay to see if mine is a "Late 02"? Also can I go to the junk yard and just ask for a 12volt vacuum switch or can I get a cheap one new?
