Toyo M/T's here. No comment on wear, got about 6k on them so far and nothing looks unusual. Will report back in 3 years.

I bought mine, because, well, not many load E out there.. and every person that owns them loves them over their previous tires.

Couple questions about 285's

1. Any of you seeing anything resembling a difference in speedo readings vs reality? Should be off by a mile and hour or three?

2. How do the 285's fit on the stock rims? How wide are our stock rims?

i wanted to try the tall, skinny tires but i went the opposite direction...aesthetics

i put 305/70 R16 D's on last night. i had that size tire but E rated on my 02 and liked the look so i went for it again. i got the Dominator A/T made by Cooper...ive had Coopers in the past and i liked them, but i didnt have that specific truck long enough to tell about wear. to each their own, thats the way i went.

ive noticed more wander with these tires coming from a 265/75 R16 E. but where i live, all the roads are crowned over and the 305 is over an 1.5" wider than the 265. at the moment, im contributing the wander to the wider size, not the rating. time will tell as i learn more...

i believe the rims are either 6.5 or 7.5 wide, look on your door jam. someone else should jump on this one to verify....

I am thinking of the 285 Silent Armors for their extra load carrying ability. I regularly haul a Truck camper.

Here's a pic of the TOYO'S on my truck. These are great tires (for the road) and are VERY QUIET. They'll also carry any load I happen to have on the truck, camper or firewood, NO PROBLEM. Looks like there's enough room for the next size taller too.... maybe next time!!

Thanks for the pics... are those the 285 D's?? If they have had an E.. I'd have them on....

Yes, the speedo is going to be a little off.. You will have to get it reset. This is the TOYO site for the specs on the Open Country's. (Look at the diameters.)

I am running the Kelly Safari Trex 285/75/16. I got bout 10,000 on them so far and still look like new. I choose them cause thats about all the local tire shop had in load range E. The tread is not really aggressive but they are quiet and they do very well in the mud. IIRC they ran me around $530

I just put a set of Michelin LTX 265/75/16E For the ride and mileage. I havent heard of better mileage out of anything else. The dealer said Michelin is coming out with an AT version of the LTX soon. should be a hot seller.

Bryan,
I just finished a set of Toyo A/T's. Only got 37,000 out of them. 'XLR8R' is only getting 35,000 from his Toyo M/T's. So I don't think they are a high mileage tire. But the 65 psi on the M/T's is nice. I don't think the will ride flat, though, at that pressure. My A/T's were a bit squirley, but that could be due to stock 8" wheels.

Went to 315's in the BFG A/T this time. Feel much better than the Toyos. I have seen a set of BFG M/T at 25,000 that look like new.... and a set of BFG A/T's pushing 40,000 miles that have good life left in them.

Sidenote: Anyone interested, Centramatic balancers, with the spacer they provide, on the front, eliminates any rub with the 315's.

I agree with HOHN. If looking for 285's I don't think the Toyo MT's can be beat. (Did not realize they came in 285's).

Thanks RJ... That's a far cry from the 75k+ I've been getting out of my Michelins.. ... but I messed this set by not rotating.. (So I have two that are wore out.. and two that have some miles left on them..)

I've been looking at BARams used set.. a little more that I was wanting.. but hmmm... (good deal..)
Thanks for all the input guys...
Bryan
