24v most BANG FOR THE BUCK
Hi guys, I'm still hoping my vp 44 doesn't have to be replaced. The truck has driven flawlessly the past few days. My next question is on HOPUPS. With the 98.5-2002 24v's what is the best bang for the buck. I'm not looking at 500hp/1200 tq like some of you have, I'm kinda' looking for the "starter kit" to high performance. My truck has 240k on it so I don't want to stress it too much. The only CAVEAT is that I want to have the same fuel milage or better. What are my options and what is the cost. Thanks............

My vote is for a SMARTY. It really wakes up the low end and makes the truck a joy to drive. I think they run around $600. Not the cheapest option, but definately worth the money. The good thing is later on when you get on the slippery slope of bombing your truck you can stack the SMARTY with an Edge Comp, TST box, one of the Quadzilla boxes, or a Redline Box.

Edit: I see you dont have gauges yet that should be your first mod.

What kinda power would the SMARTY give, how hard is it to install and what about fuel milage?? Thanks............

Smarty is said to give 65 hp. It is a programmer, so you just plug it into the diagnostic connector and program the setting you want. Takes a couple mins. It does help with fuel mileage, once you stop beating on it. Well worth the money IMO.
I tow very little so I dont have my tranny temp hooked up.
You need an egt gauge!

My brother is running a set of RV275 injectors [$300] & a Smarty programmer [$600] It is a great combo....he has seen +3 mpg with the Smarty on fuel saver setting.

if you have an auto trans look in to a mild chip like an edge ez or quadzilla xzt, if you go more than 65 hp get a trans upgrade. also these chips i mentioned do not tap the fuel pump, therefore they are not as hard on the vp 44

i got an edge juice with attitude i ppaid 700 and all the gauges are built into it i tapped my vp-44 and have not had a problem for over 50000 miles running on level 5-5 all the time it took about 2 hours to install it. i think that it is a great product. i have not run the smart but have heard nothing but good about that so i think that you should choose either the smarty or the juice with attitude

The most bang for the buck I've seen for the 24v over the last 7 years is a used EZ. They sell around here all the time for $200. Even at $250 it's a heck of a deal.

I just put in my quadzilla xzillaraider and at 120hp for $320 you can't beat it! i'm addicted to the power now, i don't know what its like up against something like an edge juice but i love it. Gauges are mandatory for this one though.
