My ARP 2000's had 6 longer studs by about 3/16" or so. Those go on the exhaust side of the head.

Mine had 6 longer ones. The valve cover edge covers the two on the front and the two on the back. All six on the exhaust side are exposed to atmosphere. All the others are under the valve cover.
