24 valve towing performance
i know alot of topics get beat to death, and i have researched alot on here. so here is my question. assuming i get my tranny built, what would be the ideal towing setup. heavy towing to me would be about 12 to 14k. i am thinking of getting some mach 1.6's and use a htb2 62/12. but i have read a recent thread where people aren't happy towing with their 62 turbos. i am looking for some experience here. i would use my edge ez with the mach 1.6's and htb2. when i want to play i have the xzillaraider. so would the ez/1.6's/62mm turbo be a good towing combo?? could i run a set of mach 4s?? what would be the best combo? or should i keep my hx35 and run a set of rv275's and be happy with that?? i don't want to lose towing performance, ex. getting too hot and having to drive by pyro. i would rather lose power than drivability and towability. thanks

I'm running Mach 1.6's, Smarty, and a HRVP with a stock HX35 (wastegate set at 38psi) with no EGT issues towing. Towed weight can be up to 16,000 lbs with my typical loads.
I wish I could comment on the HTB2, but I can't.

I don't know much about the turbos, but I would be more concerned about the super swamper tires. They are not designed for heavy towing. Check to see if their E rated.
Sorry, just looking out for your safety.

I have a 62/14 , and I really like it. It runs nice and spools great. Pulling 14-15000lbs in 5th at 60-65mph the comp on level 1x5 EGT’s run 750-800, pulling hills EGT’s get to 1000-1100.

so will the mach 1.6's and edge ez be enough to spool a 62/12?? i don't plan on studding the head for awhile so if i leave the turbo gated at around 35 psi, would it cool enough?

Yes, you'll have enough fuel to spin the 62/12. With that combo you'll have a nice 325hp+ towing rig. You can always get a Edge Comp or TST if you need more.
I have a slightly bigger turbo and with just the Smarty and injectors the turbo spools fine for towing. The only towing "issue" I had was with steep grades. Had to come out of O/D lockup to keep egts in check.

i have the xzillaraider fueling box. it is like a regular tst as it is only a fueling box. it is rated for 120 hp. but it will fuel past 2700 rpms all the way to 3200rpms, like a tst comp. i figured i would leave it off to tow with or turn it on to level one which is 40 hp if i needed an extra kick.

Definately start with the mild injector and EZ combo with your stock HX35 FIRST! Don't buy the $1300 turbo and $150 downpipe unless you find you need it. There's a lot of us, me included, that did great with a stock turbo towing with similar combos. Mine was a Catcher/RV275s/stock HX35. Ran strong and cool with a manual boost controller safely limiting boost to about 38.
You can spool a 62/12 just fine with that combo also, but you probably wouldn't have to.
Edit: I just saw where you said above that you have another box, using it would require the turbo, nevermind.

well i would like to keep this as cheap as possible, and i am in no means trying to get the most horse power. i rarely use my fueling box. i would really like to know the differences in egt, smoke, etc. in the rv275's and mach1.6's i know the mach is almost double the power (and double the price). BUT on F1 diesel's website they say it is a no smoke injector and no turbo upgrades needed? what about with the ez? if i could get away with a stock turbo that would be great, with either injector!!

The mach injectors are very clean but if lugged they can get smokey. The 275's are incredibly clean and cool burning injector and add a nice bottom end but don't add much on the top end. The ez would stack nice with your fueling box. It adds timing which helps with EGT's and mileage. Hard to say how'd they all stack on a stock turbo.
