215 injectors

im looking to replace my injectors, and this definitely is not going to turn into a smoker..i really dont need a tremendous amt of extra power, but realistically, what are these capable of doing powerwise/economy w timing at 15.5 or 16 and 25 to 30 boost.i presently have a banks stinger[and a cat w/320,000 on it]soon to be replaced w bigger 4 inch stuff.trans should be fine w/ats vb,tripleloc,emjay..i dont have a clue what the fuel plate is from this kit,and any advice on how this might turn out will be greatly appreciated..i havent timed it yet,or tabbed the KDP,and new overflow valve,3000 gsk is on the way from piers..thanks for all responses......p.s. i really like lots of low end power, but dont want to waste a bunch of fuel needlessly.....

Were do you want the power at(RPM)

Are you mainly concerned in towing?

thanks for the reply.it is a 96 2500 4x4 and never hauls more than 7500 or so.i use it for mostly highway miles, and it spends a lot of hours at 75 to 85 mph.gear is 3.54.as far as the plate,it came in banks stinger kit,and thats about all i know.it will get to 1200 or so if it is lugged hard on a long, steep hill with full throttle, and turbo mods with this setup has it making 24 or 26 on boost.it really dont have very good throttle response, and lacks enough bottom end power to really make me happy.when the boost comes up it runs pretty quickly to about 2300 then falls flat, due to defueling i guess.really slows down b4 gear change at wot too much and only pulls for a really short time b4 laying down at the top of each gear...fuel mileage is very good[long trips at 20 to 21.5 mpg.]and has been really consistent on this.occasionally i do like to stretch it out,but its done about 98 to 102 and i assume that 3000gsk will make that a good bit more..thanks for a reply from anyone.....

My 300's towed great, smoke was low & mileage was great. Given that, the 215's might be ok too in yours.

If you have the stock 12 cm turbo, it is pretty close to 10 rear wheel hp per lb of boost. Or 240-250 hp. I would guess you have the equivalent of a number 6 plate. The 215 injectors will give you about 20 hp more. The 3000 GSK will extend the torque curve over a higher rpm range and give a welcome boost in seat of the pants feel and another 20 or so peak hp because you can pull at a higher rpm.

The fall off at 2300 is defueling due to the governor, my rig used to fall on it face at 2400 before the GSK. Be careful when installing the GSK and get the instructions about where the pin is supposed to ride on the plate.

You might consider getting a number 10 plate, supposedly better for automatics with the GSK. If I was doing it over I would get a number 10 instead of my number 8. You need to open the exhaust and air filter to keep exhaust temperatures down. The number 6 and number 8 plates put in a lot of fuel at lower rpms and can get very hot quick if you put to power to them at 2000 rpm or less. Keep your rpm above 2200 if pulling hard. The number 10 plateis better in keeping temperatures under control.

See my signature for what came out of my bombing.

Nice list of mods guys. Seems like I'm in the same boat. Have about 107,000 miles on original injectors. Would like to bump up a little as well (like the 215's). I really want to get a plate and a BHAF (have k&n now) along with the injectors and a 3k kit, but the dog took care of that ($800 vet bill, seems like a bullet would have been alot cheaper ).

Anyways, what about rebuilt 215's. Where is a good source? I figure the injectors would be a great place to start till the bomb money rolls back in. Thanks, Kevin

I put in rebuilt 215's. They work good. Truck runs smooth. They're used injector bodies with brand new tips. They probably aren't flow matched like you'd get with new ones from a high performance vendor. I paid about $300US from a local diesel wholesale supplier in town here.
You'd get more bang for your buck with a #10 fuel plate and a 3K kit.

berner, thanks. Yes the plate and springs is on the list after the tranny dies and get replaced. I don't want to kill it with a #10.

I figure the injectors need a replacement anyways due to age/miles. Yhanks, Kevin

Your trans should handle a #10 if it's in fairly decent shape. Mine is stock and it holds. The #10 plate has a smooth low end. The power comes on at higher RPM when your trans oil pressure is built up. If you're concerned, you could always slide the plate back about 0.020".
