2003 HO, Have basic mods, not fast enough, What Next?
I just bought my 2003 HO auto, 2500 4wd, 3.73 LS. I have had the TowPro, 4" exhaust, Xintake, Mag-Hytec trans pan & X-Monitor installed. I also put on some 325/65R-18 tires. While the truck has a nice improvement in power, it is still alot slower than my gasser. What can I do next? It fells like it still needs another 50-60 hp, but I don't want to change turbo's and don't want to ruin the stock like driveability?

I drove a truck with Diesel Dynamics turbo and the DD3's. and it drove in every way better than stock. The common rail really tames those injecters and since it fuels harder off the bottom than the second gens there is no lag either. Its going to be hard for you to climb up the ladder to much without ditching the stock turbo. You could put in TST's or Edges new timing box stacked with yours. That would give you the extra ponies but you will not be able to fully turn up the wick because you will run into egt problems and you will bark your oem turbo pretty regular. You could get around some of that by installing BD's turbo guard but not all of it. Stage one injectors would also give you a shot in the arm and can run with the stock turbo. The question is if will it be enough? I think I detect bombitis when reading your post in which case the oem turbo is doomed anyways. Get rid of that and you might as well put in the 3's and not have to buy injectors twice...

I don't know if your diesel will be faster than your gasser unless you upgrade your turbo. Especially is the gasser is blown. Contact Edge products. They've got a couple of goodies out there that won't harm your turbo. Their Edge EZ should be plenty easy on the turbo. Only bout 60-70hp. EGT's shouldn't be a problem either since you have exhaust and intake already.

I don't know if the diesel will ever be as fast as your supercharged gasser. Unless you remove 2,000 lbs from the diesel or add 2,000 lbs to your gasser, that's about the weight difference between the two.

MikeyB

Your right about the weight, if I factor that in to the performance the trucks would probally run pretty close to each other. I think I will just wait for a set of 50-70 hp injectors and run those along with my Egde box and leave it at that. I already have one money pit and don't want to get into changing turbos, cam, heads ect.
