2003 4" Straight Pipe - How Does It Sound?

Re:2003 4" Straight Pipe - How Does It Sound?
Ok, here's my story. I was heading south thru the "spagetti bowl". It's an elevated interchange. I was in the far right lane, windows up & I heard what I thought was a loud ricer. I looked over & coming around & up to join in the southbound lanes was a straight piped '03. I think the '03 exhaust exits on the passengers side, so his exhaust was point AWAY from me . He merged & passed ...
It's hard to believe that it DIDN'T sound like a straight piped 12v or 24v pre-'03!

Hoss,
You'll definitly hear it, the muffler we have stops that ricewr sound that so many folks complain about if it's straght piped, but lets thru the "DIESEL" sound we all love etc. I doubt your neighbors will know you did anything unless you wail on it when you leave the house. When cruising it's pretty easy on the ears etc.

P.S. We do offer an optional muffler delete that you can get if you want a straight pipe system. We sell them in addition to the our DPPI system that includes the Spiral Flow muffler, we have found that most customers that get the delete and the system have the muffler installed in a few weeks.

Thanks for the info Mark. I'm still researching my options but I may be looking into one of your systems in the near future. I won't spring for the stainless stuff because I don't really need it where I'm at (plus it's just more $$$ than I want to spend on an exhaust), but possibly the aluminized system.
Thanks again.

I went muffler/resonator. The truck is quieter at idle and cruise than stock (measured with a spl meter) but barks when flogged. This is a good setup if your old like me and dont need the noise.

Re:2003 4" Straight Pipe - How Does It Sound?
I personally have a DPP spiral flow muffler on my truck. I am very happy with the way my truck sounds. If you hammer it people look around for the Semi coming, if you are just cruising down the road it is barely noticeable. My Dad says he really likes the improved sound over stock. I was in the same boat as you, I did not want to buy an exhaust I could not hear.
I am happy I bit the bullet and bought it anyway.
Good luck Jason
