2001 Dodge ABS
From what I've read, the 2001 has ABS standard on the rear but it's an option on the front. How can you tell if you have the ABS on the front? If not, is it an easy upgrade?
Thanks for the help.

Not really even an option to upgrade. Would be more money than trading the truck. Easiest way to know if it has 4WABS is to turn the front wheels all the way to one side and see if there is a wire coming from the wheel bearing area. The other you would need to know a little more about the system to know what to look for under the hood. Basically the RABS has a small valve assembly under the master cylinder and the 4WABS has a larger box on the fenderwell. Without looking at either one before, you may have a hard time knowing. Look for the front wheel wires, that should be the biggest give away. Or you can PM me your VIN and I can tell you for sure!

Don't know about the option part of what you say, but.......
Get a "Build Sheet" from the dealer. Take your VIN # to Parts Dept. Should be free. Nice to have (assuming you bgt CTD used) as it lists all items as it came from the factory... standard & optional.
Can also tell by crawling under front end and looking for a sensor wire, behind the axle, that goes to the inside center of the wheel. Reads teeth rotating on the hub so it knows when wheel is locked up!
Sorry...guess vz has you covered...types faster than do I.

Well, I can tell you I ran HIS vin number. It is an 01 Ram with RABS. What ever information YOU may have could be wrong. If it was standard in 01 HIS truck should have it, and it does not. There are different "standard" options for Laramie, SLT, 1500, 2500 ect.

Intersting since the published info comes directly from DCX.
Here's the the statement re standard features on the 2001 Ram from DCX.
2001 Dodge Ram pickups
Chrysler is generally holding off on major changes in anticipation of a full redesign next year. In the meantime, the 2500 and 3500 models get standard four wheel antilock disc brakes. The rear calipers have dual pistons, and the ABS systems include electronic variable proportioning for the best front-rear balance.
The Cummins turbo diesel engine is getting a power boost, up to 235 hp / 460 lb-ft of torque - with a new high output option of a whopping 245 hp / 505 lb-ft of torque (manual transmission only). The manual / Cummins option's cruise control is now fully electronic.
New color schemes are being added, along with bright tailgate graphics and child seat anchors.
This info is also posted on the ALLPARR site.
Scroll down to 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup.

Dodge did a short year run in 2000 and changed over to the 2001 model year early. The 2001 was available in April 2000 with rear drum brakes. I purchased a 2001 3500 on April 24th 2000. It came standard with 4 wheel antilock brakes and rear drum brakes. Rear disk brakes became available on the 2001 in the late summer of 2000.
The VIN itself doesn't tell you anything about the brake configuration, although depending on where/how you run it you may get the info for the Equipmentation Identification tag. This tag is located in the glove box of the 2001 pickup and it shows the brake configuration.
However, I don't doubt that there could be exceptions to the DCX stated standard equipment list for the 2001 due to the early switch from 2000 to 2001 model year. If so these were exceptions not options.

Huh, I don't understand how you think your information would be any more reliable than mine? I access the dealerconnect website for Dodge dealers. Where did you say yours came from again?

When I run a vin number I can tell you every option that was standard and added, including anything that may have been added on at the time of sale by the dealer! Want to send me YOUR vin? I can show you what I get when I do it. The original posters model year was 2001. He has RABS only. Why am I arguing with you again? I answered the original posters question. I'm done!
VZDUDE is correct, I checked as he ask me to and the front brakes do not have the ABS sensor.
RABS only.

As info, and not to argue with anyone, my 2001 ram window sticker clearly states 'standard pwr disk/drum Rr anti-lock' and under optional equip it reads 'Brakes - 4-wheel Anti-lock'. For info my truck is an early '01 being built Jan 21, 2000 and put in service May 11, 2000 for reference.
Maybe the late '01.5 with the rear disks had 4wal brakes. The very worst thing on my truck is the 4 wheel anti lock, I absolutely hate them! No ifs ands or buts!
