1999 Stock Exhaust Question
Muffler is bad at the rear where tail pipe section connects to it . Buying a 4" system soon but not now since I just did the LP, IP and bought a Smarty.
Wondering if anyone knows what I need to replace the muffler with a piece of pipe. It looks like 4" coming out of the resonator (sp?) and into the front of the muffler, then it looks like it reduces down to 3" leaving the muffler. I can't crawl under it right now to get exact measurements.
Not sure what I need.
A piece of 4" pipe about 3 feet long.
A 4" coupler to connect 4" pipe to pipe in front of where the muffler was.
Then a 4"x3" reducer to connect to tail pipe.
Clamps.

Measure twice, cut once.
I think you are very close, but you better measure before you buy a bunch of stuff you don't need.
I think you are looking at the catalytic converter, not a resonator.

Thanks...but I just spent well over $2500 on the truck this month, Christmas right around the corner...$375 isn't in the budget right now. I wish I could do that right now, but it will have to wait.

I just got back from NAPA. Small problem, I ordered a 3 foot piece of 4 inch pipe. They got me a 4 foot piece of 3 inch. Oh well they will have the right stuff tomorrow. I hope.

the muffler elimination kit from genos was $96. all of your measurements are correct, but keep in mind that the tip of the muffler i believe is flared, and the tip of the last section of exhaust pipe is flared.

well, what you could do is cut off it right off before everything and make a turndown by cutting a 4" exhaust piece with a 45° cut on one end...and tack weld it on....dunno how much 4" aluminized turndowns cost. I ran my truck for a full year on 6' of 3" stock pipe with a turndown on the end....sounds beefy but gets annoying after 8 months or so.....

Seems like you hit the nail on the head with your list so far, the only thing I would change is if you are going to be using clamps buy some real clamps from Nappa don't reuse the stock piece-o-crap clamps. They crimp down on the tubing too much in my opinion, which makes it just about impossible to take everything apart once you've done it, just my $.02...

This route wasn't too cheap either, just got back from NAPA.
5' of 4" pipe
1- 4" coupling
1- 4" x 3" reducer
3- 4" clamps
1- 3" clamp
$89.00
I cutting out the muffler and maybe the resonator and putting this in their place.
