19.5" Wheels, the good and the bad?

I have heard a lot of good things about tire's lasting way longer, rickson's website says better fuel milage? What can I expect if I were to go to these? Where can I find a good price on some used ones since they have 19.5" simulators... For you guys running these wheels what tires do you use and especially with snow and ice?

I think that is what is on the F550 work truck I drive(furd) and the only thing I don't like about them is how bad they seem to want to pull you into things on the highway. When you get close to the edge of the road it's like it sucks you in and then it's hard to get back out of the track. They seem to make the front end react different than anything I have driven with 16" tires, like 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

I don't know if this makes sense or if it's just me but that is what I hate about those tires.....just like a magnet and next thing the truck is on it's own mission and I'm fighting the steering wheel the other way. OH, the alignment is good and so are the tire pressures, so not that.

better mileage if on the highway at cruising speed, but they can't convince me that a heavier tire/wheel gets better mpg's around town or if you have a heavy foot

I've got a set on my truck for hauling a heavy truck camper. When new, they did tend to track the ruts in the road. After about 1000 miles they track just like my 16 in. rubber.
I've got the steel wheels and they are HEAVY. That makes them harder to get rolling and requires slightly harder brake pedal pressure to get stopped. It also is a lot of weight to be hanging off the steer axle and you'll need some good shocks. I swap off the 19.5's for the 16's in between camping trips. I need the 19.5's for weight carrying, but if I had to do it over again I'd get the Alloy wheels NOT the steel wheels.
I'm running Dunlop SPS rubber and getting real good tire wear and since they have a narrower tread they do real well in the snow.

Hope this helps...

These tires were used by a friend in WY and rode pretty well-- lasted a LONG time, too.

For the cost, I wouldn't do them again. I had aluminum Alcoas, with 265-19.5 Goodyear G-124's, and had to fight balancing issues alot, but wear wasn't too bad. They did grab everything on the road, and 6 tires, rims and adapters weighed in around 970 lbs. DRW setup on an 03.

The extra weight and stress on the truck to me, just wasn't worth it.

Is there a choice for SRW owner to use 22.5s? Where can I find 22.5 tire data such as diameter, width and load capability?

Thanks,

Ronnie

chromewheel.com does SRW 22.5" kits.
Get a quote and you will be surprised at how much 22.5" wheel/tire combo costs. The quote I got from them was over $6000.00.
I will be going 19.5".

I ran a set of Vision Type 81 19.5" x 7.5" wrapped in Yokohama TY303 285/70R19.5's like HOHN posted above. I really like the tires, ride was a bit rough, but not bad. They were wearing great, but at 35.5" tall, I got tired of switching them out every weekend when I went to the strip. I would still be using them if not for that!

They hurt my in town mileage, but didn't bother the highway mileage. Still got over 18mpg hwy with them!

BTW, they're for sale if anyone's interested
Chris
