18.5 turbo housing

I am interested in putting an 18.5 turbo housing from a first generation truck on my 2nd gen. will it work? Will a 4"down pipe for a 2nd gen. still work or do I need one for a 1st gen.
Thanks, Matt

to use the down pipe you would need to get the adapter for the HX turbos

it clamps to the exhaust housing, I say HX turbo in general. I think with the HY the turn down was a bolt on or it might be all one piece

also there will be a length difference between the WG and non waist gated housings

EDIT

forgot to say it will only work IF you have an HX turbo

the HY uses a band clamp to hold the turbo together, the HX uses 4 bolts and clamp plates

Matt if you look at the back of your turbo (yours is either WH1C or HX35) you will see the exhaust housing mounted to the exhaust manifold then a cast iron elbow clamped to the back of the exhaust housing which your downpipe bolts up to. If you put this elbow on the 18.5 housing you can use any 2nd gen downpipe.

I'm pullin the 370's tomorrow and will get them cleaned up and on the way soon.

Matt- Just unbolt the clamp at the back of the turbine housing. That clamp will mate right to the 18.5 cm housing if you pull the exhaust system forward 1.5 inches. Haulin'_in_Dixie just did this on his 24 valve, you might want to look at his thread.
