Howdy, I have a 2005 3500 CTD with 17" rims. Will my rims fit on a buddys 99 2500 CTD that has 16" rims on it now. Heard there might be a center hole difference somewhere.

I wanted my 17's because that justified me getting my 37x12.5-17 pro comp x-treme all-terrains.
I wanted a 37" tall tire, 11.5-12.5" wide with good road manners and long tread life.
I also love the look of the 3rd gen dually wheels, and hated the the 2nd gen front wheel look.

But I guess you guys were talking about srw models, but at least I have a perfectly good reason for having my 3rd gen 17" wheels.

I started this thread & have finally put '05 aluminum wheels w/ 285/70 Nittos on my '99 w/ no issues at all - room to spare in fact. It looks great too! See my avatar for photo.

If its a street-only truck and you want larger tires just for the diameter and highway RPM, you might want to look for larger rims since they wont balloon and flex in panic stops or fast turns.
If you want something you can take on a trail youll need larger tires on smaller rims. 16 or 17 shouldnt matter.
On mine a 33x12.50 r16.5 is a good combo. RPM is still kinda high with 4.10 gearing though. Id need more lift for a 35" tire though.

I'm bringing this thread back for another round. I have some Centerline 16x8 wheels but I can get a good deal on some H2's with tires, so I am sitting here having a debate on which to go with and why. Any thoughts? I want 315's on which ever one I choose. My biggest concern is side wall height on 315 for each vs tire cost for each.

To the P who wondered about width: My '02 aluminum stock wheels hold on to BFG 285-75-16 tires easy; Sam's Club mounted 'em no issues.

To the P who wondered about hub diameter: I took these wheels off my truck today and replaced them with '08 3500 big horn aluminum wheels, and the hub size was identical on my truck.

if you do alot of heavy towing 17 are an exellent upgrade. they have a higher load cap. yes tire are more expensive but they are very rugged(at least the commercial ones are)

Bersaglieri:

Get the H2's, take them to Wal-Mart and switch the tires to the Centerlines for about $28-40 total and then sell the H2 rims on Craigslist.

The tires are different sizes. 16 vs 17.

I agree with number47^
I just went to 3rd gen 17's and pulling my loaded 30 ft. gooseneck trailer is a much more enjoyable experience.
Less tire sway on curves on the highway as there is less tire between the rim and the road. IMO probably the next best thing to trading in for a dually.
