12s Baby!
After lots of tuning and trials I finally made it into the 12s last night. The first run of the night was 12.996 @ 102.98 followed by 4 more (2 in the 12.98s and 2 in the very low 13s). The final run of the night timed in at 12.95 @ 103.22 (1.82 60'). I was very pleased considering this is the major goal for single turbo 4x4 3/4 tons. This was done with parts that most say "aren't the best", too : ;D
I'd like to give thanks to the following vendors (not sponsors!) for their great products:
Diesel Dynamics - Supermentals, TTPM, and 4"exhaust
Wildcat Diesel - Scotty 2 that's coooooooooool
Advanced Diesel - Fuel Lines (and the PE 4200 that's off right now)
Piers Diesel Resarch - the mighty PDR HX-40/16 and cam
BD Power - Race Anti Defueler
TST performace - the insane fueling TST Powermax 3 Competition
and of course, putting all the power to the ground,
ATS Diesel Performance with their full tranny and the bulletproof Triplelok.
The runs were made at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, NC. Temps were about 55-60 degrees.
The best part? After I dialed in at 12.95 for the bracket a guy in a drag mustang came walking by, stopped in amazement and said "Yo man... that thing's in the 12s?!?!?"

Wow! Good Job.
I guess my YUGO times in the mid 20's are needing a bit of work. :
Time to change to a Chevette

Make sure you get the diesel Chevette. If I remember correctly, the quoted 0-60 time on those was around 30 seconds, which was also the quarter-mile time, and pretty near the top speed, as well. That should give you plenty of room for improvement. ;D

Re:12s Baby!
Thanks guys!
It might have a little bit more if the temps drop some more, but it was pretty much smoke free last night. Time for some more injector now
JR,
I'm leaving with about 12-15 pounds. I'm leary of the stock tranny shafts, so I'm trying to play nice until I can get the billet sticks in there. A 20 pound launch will probably shave a little more off.
Now for 12.8s....

Re:12s Baby!
Two things I have found out this past year. 50-60 degreee weather with most set-ups seems to be the best all around temp for racing. Lower humidity helps a bunch too.
Not sure why you think others feel that the parts are your truck are junk, but I think everything you have on it works good. For Nitrous I would say the HX40 is not gonna live long, but it does not appear you are a druggie. 8)
Leave with more boost. Try 20 PSI. Perhaps after the output shafts. I bet the intermediate will hold for you until you make 550HP.
Back to the humidity....whens its low the drag on the truck is lower....seems to add MPH to a few trucks I mess with.
What type of tires are you using?
The anti-defueler is a must. Found that out the hard way.
Twins in your future?
Don~

Re:12s Baby!
Don,
I agree that the temp helped a lot. When I ran my 13.22 run (my previous best) it was around 85-90 and really humid. The humidity last night was a typical NC summer night... around 85-90%. It was a combo of the lower temp and a little tuning that cut the quarter second off.
On the 20 psi... ehhhh.. I'll wait until I throw in the billet stuff. ATS is working on (may have 'em now) all 3 shafts in billet form, so those will definitely be going in. I broke the input a few months ago on the 1-2 shift... it wasn't fun.
I'm running Bridgestone Duelers in stock size (265/75). They're stickier than the stock michelins by a fair amount, but the track we run out has a really slippery start. I could feel all 4 spin for a split second before it would bite. I raced a Eagle Talon leaving the track and it left nice and hard on the street. Doesn't make sense... lol. I'm going to switch to 4.10s and 315/75s in the next few months. Not sure how the slightly shorter gearing will help, but it'll be interesting to see.
Not sure about the twins. The truck is very driveable and almost completely smoke free if driven normally. I'm thinking slightly larger injectors, the large dual scroll wastegate PDR has for their 40s (used on their twin setup), ATS manifold, and maybe/probably a small shot of giggle gas to help it out for the less than ideal race days (100 degree 90% humidity NC summer days). I'm not sure I can keep saying no
John
PS... I don't think my parts are junk, but it's often talked about that their "not as good as XXX". Like you said... this setup works for me.

Re:12s Baby!
Congrats John, Did you replace your broken input with a stock input shaft? Been waiting to drag race mine till I get a billet input. I need to get down there and try it soon though. What kind of rpm are you turning at the traps? Tim

Re:12s Baby!
Tim,
yeah... I screwed up there. I was looking to sell the truck when it broke, so since I was getting rid of it I just put another stock shaft in it. Oh well... it has to come apart to do the intermediate anyway. At the traps it's still climbing the power curve... I'm at about 2700 rpms at the line. On the street it keeps pulling harder and harder up to 3300ish before it levels off. I'm hoping the gear/tire change will bump it up in the rpm curve to help instead of hurt from the heavier tires.
