There was some interest in how the following would work out earlier, so I thought I'd post it.

Had to replace a cracked 14cm2 exhaust turbine housing on an HX40/35 hybrid. Was given a used 12cm2 wastegated housing for free. Put it on this morning, and closed off the wastegate. Drove a couple of hundred miles this afternoon & evening.

Good things: Wow, about as close to instant spool-up as I've ever seen. Couldn't feel a lag at all. Boost built up real fast. Didn't run the boost past 20, as I'm breaking the bearings in. Did get on it once at a yellow light, fifth gear and the tires nearly broke free with about 28 lbs boost.

Bad things: EGT's were up by 150*F. Can't tow with this thing, especially during the summers in the Rockies. I'd imagine with bigger injectors and the pump wire hooked up, it'd be pretty impossible.

So it's back to a 14cm2, but I might wait awhile to put it on, since it's getting colder and I'm not towing right now. It's a good way to make 275 injectors & a Comp w/o the wire attached seem like a rocket.
