Thanks
With what you have as far as fuel I would be partial to the 18cm housing.

That’s of course if money is tight. You can find one of those for really cheap >$75.

Cruise EGT's will be up a 100-150 degrees, but on a ***** out run you still will see 1600*, but you will see them when the speedo is passing 90. I am sure with the 12 you are running now that you see 1600* after you hit 60MPH.

Single turbos, not matter whose you run will have some drawback. (IE spool-ability, excessive heat on a sustained max power run)

I think you estimated about right, I would imagine you would still spool the turbo even with a 18cm housing by 2k, as in full boost. You may have to change your driving style to keep your low rpm egt's down as in don't lug the engine, you'll just have to down shift and use rpm's to your advantage. its still better than melting a piston!!

In your situation you will see lower egts with any housing bigger than the 12 especially since you have your wastegate blocked.

You bet all the exhaust housings are interchangeable on all the holset turbo's that dodge used, all the hx, whc, and hc except the hy35.

Classifieds here, and TDR.

Check Ebay also.

If you can find someone with a 1st gen you might be able to trade them. I can't remember off the top of my head which ones came with that housing.

It looks as if that turbo has a .94 A/R ratio exhast housing. (.80 a/r housing is roughly 14.77cm) So a .94 housing might be ok, even though very large it could still work.

I am not sure what flange they use to bolt to the manifold either. After a quick serach of google, it shows many RX-7 owners running that turbo. I would think (this is my very uneducated-dumb assumption) that thier motors would have a hard time pushing the turbo to 20 psi. I am sure you would push much much hard. How harder? I am not sure. But it would suck BAD to breakt he comp wheel off the shaft and have the motor "eat" the fragments.

I don't think the Garret chargers are capable of running the high pressure ratio's us Cummins guys like to use. Something about the bearing design not liking higher RPM like a Holset or Schwitzer.

I think the 7.3L Powerstrokes used a GT38, but they don't live too well above 35psi. Stock is ~17psi if memory serves me correctly.

I have heard the same thing about the Garretts not having stong bearings to run above 30psi.

For exhaust housings, a 16 can be bought for about $150 from any of the vendors, 18 came on 89-91.5 and 93's, and 21 came on 91.5-92. These can be found on ebay or in TDR classifieds.

My 16cm didnt seem to make much difference, but i think my timing is really bad retarded, and is making my EGT's really high. Lag isnt to bad. Im used to the extra lag now, so its no big deal, and it will only get better the more fuel i add I also live in Ky. I have an 18.5cm housing, but im just not sure if i wanna sell it or not. Im horrible about that. Just figure if i get enough fuel i might wanna use it someday, but i would consider selling it if you're interested. Just shoot me a PM. I dont know how far away we live from each other, but if u wanted to meet up to get it that would be fine. Just let me know

With my 16cm housing i can still have 10lbs of boost by 1300rpm's at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Not to bad really. I do miss the 12 at times, but im gonna leave the 16 on. Yeah. Holler at me if you come to Casey County. Not to far from here. Maybe we could meet up?
