looking for some advice on my, not yet purchased, 01 2500 QC, 5.9 magnum.
its got 170K on ticker. its extremely clean and rust free (southern truck).

automatic...looking for the low buck, upgrades initially. Then the moderate items.

Currently a 4 speed auto.

truck will be working...snow plow and usual moderate towing. <8,000.

Those 5.9 gassers where known for popped intake manifold gaskets and would burn oil pretty good.. replacing the gasket is a temporary fix.. check out www.hughesengines.com
They offer a kit that will solve the problems of that gasket letting go for around 120USD. I installed one on the girl friends 5.9 magnum with good results..
I'd get a trans temp gauge on it too if you will be using it for work...
