Your thoughts on model 629
S&W. Like I said before, I am a little green on most guns/history. I know nothing about revolvers. Trying to learn more every day...anyway...
Is this the replacement for the model 29? I thought about adding this to the list of wants. My local gun shop has one...felt smooth, good trigger....better than the superredhawk.
Thanks - John

thanks for the replies men. Ahha 6 = stainless easy enough
They want 6 bills for it.
I have so many questions about different guns that I think I better by a book ...I need to ensure my list of wants are good choices...and its a pretty long list Now, to get that money from the CFO.

Besides, anything beyond 100 yards and I put down the pistol and reach for the deer rifle.

I owned a 629 Mountain Gun years ago. I loved to carry it when in bear/lion country. The Ruger has the stronger frame, however, and will stand up to hotter loads. But, if you just shoot factory ammo, the Smith would be my choice between the two. But don't forget, Ruger has INCREDIBLE customer service. Something to think about. Tough choice between those 2. I love both of 'em. -Steve

They have both new. 100 less for the Ruger.
Will the Smith hold value better than the Ruger?
what would you have to do/pay to get the Ruger trigger up to Smith standards?
There is a huge difference. IMHO
Thanks again - John
EDIT: Hoss - I know you like the GLocks. Several members of my family really like them too. I have not had the opportunity to shoot one yet, but plan to. I haven't bought any weapons for carry. Hunting, plinking, Hillbilly HOmeland Defense and collecting.

JKE: Is it possible to get a hand gun permit in SC in any shape or form? With the permits I have now, SC is the only state not honored in my travel paths.

...not to bring up an old subject, but there are a LOT of us in the shooting community that will never do business with S&W again, after they bent over and took it for the Klinton crowd (recall: S&W signed on to the ATF "tracking" insanity, whereas no other firearm manufacturer would; Smith lost a LOT of distributors from that, as the ATF had slipped language into the package that forced the distributor / dealer the same treatment for ALL firearms dealt with, as long as he was selling Smith products...)

DD4x4 - I will research for you. We can transport UNloaded in a closed glovebox or case if that is what you are refering to. You can too in SC. I think you may know that Georgia requires "IN PLANE VIEW" transport of handgun loaded or not. In other words...cross the Georgia line and remove weapon from glovebox and place it on the dash or else where...FYI if coming thru SC to GA. You prbably know this though.
As far as carry goes, you and I can both carry on WMA land to and from your vehicle with no permit if you are hunting or fishing...same deal on private land without a permit...
I will look up the concealed in public if that is what you were after.
EDIT: I ment UNLOADED in SC!

DD4x4 - looked at reciprocity with SC. VA ain't on the list..which you know I'm sure. I could carry there, but not you here.
Permits only issued to SC RESIDENTS. Do you have any family residing in SC?
Now, if you are an FFL1 holder, that may change things slightly...
Hope this helps. Let me know if there are more questions.
How about modifying that Ruger trigger?? - JKE
