I am pretty set for work during either a depression or recession. I am a automotive tech. The infrastructure of the US is such that no matter what people need to drive. They may cut back on luxury driving, vacations and such, but the car still needs to work to get them to work. The worst that will happen in this field is they will cut back on how many techs they have on board. I am not seriously worried about that part though.

I am pretty recession proof.
Note I said I, my current job could leave tomorrow. The best way to stay ahead of the curve is to be able to do many different things, so for now, I swing wrenches, and paint in addition to my Engineering job. I cannot find enough time in the day............
As for you working in the public sector, don't ever believe you are recession proof, actually you might be recession proof, but not depression proof. When the day comes when we cannot support this Government, and that day is coming, you had better have a game plan.
The Chickens and Garden will help out immensely, and I am working on getting a rabbit business going........

My profession seems to be one of the few that prosper during hard times. I am employed as a drilling engineer for a major and it always seems to get real busy during economic slow downs. That and my seniority within my group (GOM/Deepwater) causes my little concern. Ed B

If another hurricane sat out in the gulf and spun for a few days, we would be paying $8 /gal for diesel.
I work in the petrochemical industry.....They are reporting record profits every quarter so I don't worry about my job. I just wish they would pass some of those record profits on down so I can afford to drive to work and make their money for them.

Your right but If another one hit like Katrina did I would have to beg to be at home. As soon as Katrina hit the gulf every diver went on stand-by pay, got $10-$15 raises. As long as I am working it can go as hi as it wants.
My job is like everyone else's. For me to be one the upside there has to be the other guy on the bottom. Right now I am the one on the bottom. Hope that makes sense.

I've always been busy through past so called recessions, for 33 years now.
People with high end horses always have money to spend on their babies.
What I need is a cure for arthritis and old age.

I work in the oilfield, and gas prices are up up up. WHOO. Recession? or Boom? Boom for me. I'm making good money over here for now. Plus, the economy slowing down is better for me. Alot of people who weren't in debt, now have to let stuff go for bottom dollar. Works for me! I'm buying all types of good used stuff.

I'm an engine mechanic for the local mass transit system so should be pretty safe.....no matter what happens people have to have a way to get around and the bus is cheap.

Definatley resession proof here. The worse the economy gets the more work I get. Of course there are more reasons than econonmy for me to be busy.

I'm a military aerospace, specifically the V-22 Osprey program. We just got an order for 167 more Ospreys and foreign governments are asking for proposals.
My wife and I have been careful with our finances so we are in great shape.
Wife works in health care, business admin. She has people asking her to come work for them all the time.

One would always figure that Casinos would continue through a recession. While, where I work, we've experienced quite a slow down in recent months, no one (yet) is in jeopardy of being laid off. However, Harah's (which is a chain of casinos across the country) recently laid off something like 1000 people across all casinos. Starting to rethink the 'recession proof' statement from earlier.

Mobile maintenance machinist and welder for a fossil fuel power plant company in the PJM…as long as people keep using electricity were golden…and with the government getting there sticky hands into regulation again it will be good for the industry….but bad for the customer…
