Did you ever work for Pillowtex/Fieldcrest Cannon?
My wife used to work at the Dallas office. She could read the writing on the wall and left before they went under.

People have to eat and Where I work, we do a LOT of Great Value (Walmart Brand) Food. If there is a "recession", people would be buying crap like this hand over fist because it is CHEAP.

Plus, whats a recession? Last one I heard about was in the 30's and my great grandma said she never remembered a time where they went without food.

update

Well the numbers for the 1st QTR are out. The economy grew 0.6% that's not much but it does contradict the theory that we are in a recession. This is according to the commerce dept which also believes that the slowdown is nearly over. Since we have to have 2 consecutive Qtrs of a reduction as opposed to growth we can't officially be in a recession until the end of 3rd QTR 08.
Woo Hoo I'm glad I chose not to participate that information could have busted my bubble!!

I work in offshore construction. I havent worked in 9 weeks. We are really slow in the winter any way but never this long. Most if not all of the katrina work out there is done and all the insurance money is spent.

Good thing I saved alot of money last summer.

I need another huricane to just sit out in the gulf and spin for a few days. Just not to hurt anyone though.

I am having to work on other things right now to get alittle flow coming in.

I work in the railroad industry, and we could be any busier. Alot more companies are shipping by rail vs truck because its cheaper now. If this recession keeps going for a while I have a feeling we revert to past practices in transportation of goods. More shipping by rail and less by truck. Now this stimulus refund thing, I'm choosing not to spend it either. Mine is going into my saving account for a rainy day. There is nothing I need to spend it on, maybe a new windshield for the truck, but that can wait.

I work at a gold mine. Gold prices are up and we can't find enough good (drug-free and good work ethic) help, especially tradespersons and technical people.

With the higher gold prices, previous uneconomic rock becomes ore. As a result, we can't process the ore fast enough because of limited plant capacity. This leads to expansions as well as catching up on a lot of incremental improvement projects and maintenance that were previously deferred in a lower gold price environment. This in turn pumps a lot of $$$ into the local economy in terms of contract work (manpower, machine shops, fab shops, technical consultants, etc.). The aforementioned can't keep up with demand either because they are competing for the same human resources.

If folks would take all the energy and time they spend worrying about recession, or slow downs, or can I pay the bills and simply do all they can to control where their current income is going..... Well, good stewardship reduces anxiety. Being busy reduces time to focus on problems and causes one to be tired enough to get a good night's sleep. If things are still going in the wrong direction personally, better find a part-time job, or another primary source of income. Quit listening to the nay-sayers.

Remember when there became a toiler paper shortage because Johnny Carson said their WAS one?!!!

If another hurricane sat out in the gulf and spun for a few days, we would be paying $8 /gal for diesel.

I work in the petrochemical industry.....They are reporting record profits every quarter so I don't worry about my job. I just wish they would pass some of those record profits on down so I can afford to drive to work and make their money for them.

This possible recession has yet to effect me other than the increased price of fuel and other goods.
Current indicators seems to project that we're nearing the end of the slowdown.
Which is what we are currently in.
Recession-a recession is a decline in a country's real gross domestic product (GDP), or negative real economic growth, for two or more successive quarters of a year.
We don't yet have the numbers for 1st QTR 08 but the economy actually grew in the 4th QTR 07.
I think I saw a headline on Yahoo or something today that stated that there was actually a piece of a percentage of growth in the first quarter of this year. Growth would mean no recession!
I work for a marine dealership and we are selling boats like there is no tommorrow, I also run a boat lift company on the area lakes and I'm having trouble keeping up with the demand. It makes no since to me when fuel prices are sky rocketing. No compliants here!

I agree!
I watch and pay attention to all prices and indicators BUT I don't morn the changes but rather adjust to them. You've gotta be proactive and thoughtful of your environment. If not you'll always be chasing your tail.

I thought a "RECESSION" was when your neighbor was out of work and it was a "DEPRESSION" when YOU were out of work...
