Does this bother you ????
I nearly cried when I saw this car. In a pickapart with nothing but econo boxes and foreign junk, someone must have found this heap.
My stomach cringes when I see these types of cars in the yards.
Granted this was a 6 banger (most likely : front drums), but it still could have been something. Now it's just a skeleton that this dude was just picking apart. (that's not me) as I found what I wanted elsewhere.

At least its still around to give parts. Around here you see people hauling a rust free complete barnfinds to the crusher so they can get some beer/drug money, I'm serious not being mean btw. Its horrible seeing those cars getting hauled into the scrapyard. I know there are people in the NE who would kill to get there hands on a rust free classic.

Nothing new.
Where I grew up I remember going into the yards to pick parts for my GTO's and there were a lot of sweet project cars lying around in way better shape than the ones people are paying big money for nowadays.
That Challenger looks pretty used up, hopefully a lot of her parts went in the right direction and are still rollin around in another.
DVAP had it figured out a long time ago! I wish I would've seen it coming.

I remember 10 years ago there was sections in the regular pick-a-part junkyards I'd hit up for parts for my Mustang and their was piles rust free clean straight foxbody coupes and hatchbacks... Mainly 4 or 6 bangers but still people up north now would kill for one of those as they are getting harder to find.
As far as the OP above, at least it is giving parts, the car looks pretty well gone though to rust.

I've got to stop going to these places...
Being an "A" Body nut, and spending 25 years owning a 68 fastback, and selling it due to space constraints.... this killed me today.
Sounds nuts, but I can't stand it when I see these cars in the yards. This is the first one of these cars I"ve seen in 20 years, in a boneyard. This wasn't even a boneyard, but an impound yard. How long do they keep cars in an impound yard?
just a waste.... as they could have been.... or still could be saved...
Oh, well...

Stood at the window collecting money at a scrap yard one morning and a guy rolls by with a 65 mustang behind the truck he should have left there on a trailer that should not have been on the road. Shook my head and thought I should buy the car from the idiot before he gets to far.
Got a '79 mustang in the garage, first of the fox bodies with factory v8. Wife said, "sell it if it's in the way". Told her I can't sell it some moron will gut it and take it to the dirt track and go "racing" with it then scrap it. Son of a gun will rust to the ground in my garage before I sell it! Few more years and hopefully will be in a position where I can start to bring her back to life.
I hauled off an old bisquane one time. Body was in great shape, solid trunk, little rust on the hood but everything was there. Tried listing it on ebay, craigslist and other places and guys were calling offering me $150, $200 for it so they could grab parts to restore something else they had. Told them I could get more at the scrap yard with less hassle, so thats where it went. These cars might be in the scrap yards for that very reason, not beer, not drugs but cheap classic car guys. If a guy can get more for it at the scrap yard than from selling it, messing around with meeting with potential buyers who may or may not buy it then I say take it to the scrap yard. Just makes good sense, have run across tons of tire kickers that waste my time and devalue what I'm trying to sell, better just to scrap it.

I used to haul scrap cars. Back in the 80's, there where a lot of them to be had just for towing. I had a whole row of stupidbakers because I was told they were so valuable. After 3 years I found that words were all I got. Never even sold a part off of them.
One day I hauled em all in for 20 - 30 bucks each.

I completely understand the "scrap" theory, but it's flawed in some respects...
Some vehicles that were produced aren't scrap... or at least IMO, they shouldn't be.... yeah, I know, opinions are like butholes. Everyone has one, and everyone else's stinks.
I just hate seeing a car, such as this coronet, which could be easily saved as it's all there, be run over by some f-in monkey's *** droppings driving a piece of heavy equipment.
Did this GTX decide to rust itself where it lies ? No, some A-hole left it there to die..
Or this GTO ???? one of several there..
Or this stack of E-body cuda's ? which were right next to about 8 others that met their demise there.... along with at least one challenger.
Sorry for the rant, but I couldn't sleep last night after going to that wasteland of old iron. I still feel sick about it.

It would be a monumental task to save those cars.
Unless they are rare optioned I'd let them go for scrap. I'd check to make sure they aren't 440 or Hemi cars though. Looks like most of them were wrecked and picked for parts.

Just think the muscle cars that have been restored will most likely be around when we are all gone.
This was very sad day for most people there.

Those are some nice cars with cool memories.
I once spent three days...three very long days digging out a #5 basket case 59 Caddy Eldorado Convertible that was buried in a pile of dirt that I found while hunting one time.
It had the tri power as well as many rare options above that...still intact!
I got to see the car after it was restored. It took the new owner 7 years to do it. He claimed he has close to 60K into it with time and materials to make it a #1. Not sure what ever happened to the car but at that time of completion it was worth 150K plus.

Wonder if this was (note I used the word in a past tense) worth saving ?
Early 60's convert impala
Or this thunderchicken ?
I bet that GTO (pictured above) was worth a few before it went here.
Here's the body plate... Anyone interested in decoding it ?
GTO, because of the optional front brakes
or this MACH 1
You guys are right, though..... Just good memories.....
