Are you responsible for many of the illegal aliens in the US?
I have been reading on DTR and in various media for many months about the problem with illegal aliens in the US. Now I have just read the following two articles and have some questions for you Americans living on or near the Mexican border.
Are you allowing your politicians to make or change the laws to allow this to happen? Are these changes due for personal gain of the politicians or are they of genuine necessity? If what is said in that e-mail from the former Texas cop is true, then what can be done to stop it? Should it be stopped and if so, why?
There are many more questions I can ask but this should be enough for now.

I know of a lawyer in Eastern Iowa who uses the illegal immigrant population for his own personal gain. Due to the non-citizen, illegal status, he gets away with it legally. Let me explain:
An Illegal Alien comes to town to find work, his own slice of the American Dream. He has very little money but needs housing. He finds a Spanish ad for cheap rent or finds another connection that leads him to the Lawyer. The Lawyer has a slum house he rents out for a cheap rate to our Illegal Alien. The Lawyer then helps to get the Alien a Car, and happens to have a beater car to lend as well, all insurance paid, since the Alien has no papers or Social Security Number. Our "Good Neighbor" lawyer cashes the paychecks for the Alien, since the Alien cannot open a bank account, and the Lawyer gives instructions and tips on how to hide lots of cash in a house. This goes on for a month or two. Then the Lawyer drops by for an illegal, unannounced visit. Naturally, the Lawyer finds three or four relatives of the Alien living in the house, also trying for work. The Lawyer points out that rent for the house was only for the 1 alien, but the others can stay if they also pay... Since they have no jobs, the Lawyer sets them up with jobs too. The Lawyer cashes their checks like the Alien, and knows about how much money is coming in at all times. By making more unannounced visits, the Lawyer can see the standard of living is starting to improve -- newer TV, nicer clothing, decorations, etc. Then, the Alien comes to the Lawyer to get a money order, to send a large amount of money home to family members unable to slip through the border. Of Course, the Lawyer helps him out, but the first alarm just sounded. A few more months go by, and the Lwyer has been keeping close tabs on the house, checking for large purchases and trying to guage when the next money order request will come. Sure enough, the Alien approches as the Holidays draw near, asking for a money order. The Lawyer claims to be too busy that day, but come back after the weekennd, say Monday night after work....
Our friendly Lawyer then makes a phone call, giving the INS the description of a vehicle, carrying 5 or six illegal aliens to a job on Monday morning. The Aliens are arrested, and brought to jail (where I worked) to await deportation. NOW! here is the wicked part -- Illegal Aliens (at least while I worked there) are not entitled to anything they have procurred while in the United States illegally! Therefore, the money they made, the TV they bought, EVERYTHING is no longer theirs. Since the Lawyer has only cash records, he can claim back rent is due, breach of lease, etc. and becomes the sole possessor of the Alien and Families possessions. He even knows where all of the money is stashed, gets his car back, and now has a newly vacated, furnished apartment to rent to the next poor sole who comes along. I still have faith in some Lawyers, but this whole thing turns my stomach! What this Lawyer does is plain wrong, no matter what anyone feels about Illegal Aliens.
While I do not approve of entering the country illegally, and certainly not to abuse our governemnt programs, I also am disgusted and dismayed by the treatment of some of these people when they are here. Many Illegel Immigrants I have met work very hard and want to genuinely make here as Americans. Many more that I have met want the money, but also want protected status, no taxes, no SS withdrawals, and free crossings in and out as needed. THAT I do not approve of.
Iowa's Governor wanted to grant a full amnesty to Illegal Aliens, and actually pay for them to come live in Iowa to take the low paying jobs available in abundance. He proposed to pay for houses for them, free health care, and access to the state aid programs for food stamps, etc. I have travelled the world, and have seen all kinds of people, and know myself what it is like to work for every dime, and never have I been offered a free house, free health care, and food stamps, and I was born and raised in rural Wisconsin. Just think -- John Kerry almost picked that Governor as a running mate!

They come here and beat down wages and run up my taxes taking advantage of social servicies like the hospital to have their kids and using stuff like WIC to feed their kids they already have. If they can't be troubled to come here legally, they could be thrown back over the border with a catapult and I wouldn't care.

I agree with both of you.
While there are a some that bring a desired trade, and a willingness to fit in to the american way off life, and speak english, most just come up here, work at the local meat packing plant, and turn the area they live in into slums.
They have tried putting some into the habitat for humanity homes, but all they do is trash the place and bring down the neighbor's property banners.
I think its time for a new governor in Iowa.

The illegal border crossing must be stopped. Or make it legal.
There is a legal way to come to the U.S.
We do need more workers. Our young, -not all but a large percentage- are too busy or too lazy to work. I am speaking of only those that I see/interview. It takes 20-30 interviews to find one with a work etiquette.
We need to limit the welfare to citizens only. To be a citizen you must speek the language- english.
Like I said earlier, they are welcome but must be one of us, not a foreign citizen.
Anyone think we have aborted too many of our young?? As in before they have a name?
Since I am on a rant, I also think we need to give a tax break for any married couple- one male, one female- raising children.
The idea is too get one of them to stay home.
This will give them incentive to raise their young.
Feel free to criticize. !!!!!

I do not agree with people like that scum bag lawyer takimg advantage of those poor people. Hope he gets his just deserts soon. However, what would you Americans do without the Mexican's to do the work that no American wants to do?
My point by posting that email and the news story is to ask if too many Americans are sitting on their hands thereby allowing the politicians you elected to get away with things like this. And worse ...
As a side issue, I know many Mexican's who every year go up to the states to work and bring back money for their families in Mexico. All they want is a chance to make an honest buck or two and improve life for their families. Admittedly many of the Mexican's do tend to live sort of slummy and that can bring down adjoining proprty values. Have any of you considered that they may not know any other way of life? What have any of you done to show these Mexican's that there IS a better way to live. Or are you waiting for someone else to do it while you sit down and rant and rave about what these illegal aliens are doing in your back yard?
Sorry if I am treading on some toes here.

Labor rates would go up untill it was a fair pay for the work that gets done. Before the local pork packing plant was bought by IBP/Tyson it payed very good wages, and was staffed by american males. When it was sold to IBP/Tyson, the hourly wage went way down, and imigrant labor was used because it was cheaper. First the Asian people did it, and when they relized they were not making the $$ the job deserved, they quit and were replaced by the Mexicans. Sooner or later, they too will relize that the pay they get is half of what the work they do deserves.
And if the pay goes back up, then the AMericans will try and get jobs there again.
Its not that Americans won't do the work, it is that Mexican labor is so much cheaper then what an American worker would do the same job for.
Why do you think so much production is outsourced to Asia? Cheaper then paying Americans to do the work.
It's all about money. Screw the little guy so the people at the top of the ladder get more money.

I feel that the reason illegal immigrants can work for such small wages is because somehow our stupid gov't officials decided that illegal immigrants should have some of the privileges that LEGAL immigrants and CITIZENS of the U.S. get. In California they just passed legislation to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. They can also get health care...FOR FREE! And they even get welfare! Yet they're illegal and they don't pay taxes. That's how a Mexican can make $3.00/hr and be happy with it. Everything else is paid for because some stupid legislators thought it would be nice.
I don't know how these legislators did it, but they did. I don't know what they think they're doing w/ all of those tax dollars, but it sure isn't the right thing. And ya know what? I think a lot of legislators are in office for their own personal gain. Look at how many of them lie just to get into office. And the American media is so liberal nowadays that it's actually covering up a lot of the crap the gov't is doing...which sways the opinions and dilutes the facts...which causes the general public to vote the wrong way.
Heck, if that's the way it was in some other country, I'd be moving there too!
In addition, the link to the email really burned me up too! Such corruption! I think that the international borders need to be regulated by the Federal gov't, not the individual State gov'ts. At least that way there would be less chance of bias. And besides, by each state having their own laws regarding illegal immigrants, doesn't that in essence make each state their own little country? I thought this was the UNITED States of America...with 50 States.

It doesn't have a thing to do with WON"T do the job, it has everything to do with what the job pays. To me, having hog XXXX drip down the back of my neck while rebuilding the restrainer on the kill floor at the packing plant wasn't worth what they were paying me. I found a different job. If that job payed what it should have, considering it was 7 days a week, and no holidays off, I might still be there. But it didn't. I've been to Mexico, and I understand why people would want to come here. But they need to do it legally and pay their own way, don't ask me too.

By the way, the Governator killed the driver's license thing. If I could swear off Mexican food, that might put a dent in the number of jobs available. Then again, Mexicans cook all the food at Denny's too.
Seriously, I work in two industries. No illegal aliens in the fire department, but I work in construction too. Can't find a white kid that wants to learn a trade anymore, let alone a laborer. They all think they can get a job wearing a tie, making $45K plus/year right out of high school. A very few of them find themselves in construction once reality sets in. Most of them are lazy and unmotivated.
At least the Mexicans are loyal as heck, show up for work almost every day, and they work their backsides off. California, Arizona and Texas suffer the brunt of the problems stemming from illegal immigration, but hey, someone has to do the work that white folks won't do. And to top that.....a lot of these "undocumented" workers are union hands.....documentation can be bought.

IA_James, I respectfully disagree with you. I haul nursery stock and I am around alot of Mexicans. They will work. A white guy doesn't last till dinner in a nursery field. It's our fault illegal immigrants are here. We won't do hard work for low wages. And you can't pay someone $15 an hour to dig trees I'm sorry but you are digging not launching the shuttle. Pay for a job is based on how many people can do the job that is why you don't get paid $50000 a year to flip burgers. Digging trees for $6/hour is hard unrewarding work I've been in a tobacco patch all day long for alot less. So until we are willing to do the work for the pay we are going to have to put up with it. People talk about low wages but when they go to the store and bacon is $10 pound they throw a fit. You can't have it both ways.
Just my opinion!
Just my opinion!

I gotta disagree there...By that line of reasoning nobody would ever buy another new car or computer because the people assembling them are being paid too much, so they have to charge too much for the end product. If someone is getting paid decent, alot of the time they will buy what they are making also if they happen to need one. I guess I'm not really mad at the illegal immigrants, I can see why they would want to leave Mexico. The people I'm mad are the ones that hire them. If you can swim the river and find work, what's the incentive for doing it legal and paying your share?
And 2 things....1. They are breaking the LAW.
2. How do you think it would go over if you
moved to Mexico and started demanding
signs for everything in English and a drivers
license to go with it even though you can't
speak the language?

I got something for you guys, Up here in Canada, we have the mexican mennonites (Omish Mexican). A couple comes up from Mexico, gets a mortgage from a house, and since they are an immigrant, the government will give them right around $600 a month welfare. So they have a kid, they get more welfare for the more kids they have, It works out to about $200 a kid extra for welfare. Then they also get Child Benefit Tax, which is another $200-$300 per kid that they have. So they basically pay their house off just with the governments money. Then they go out, with their entire family and they work on a farm, where they will work cheap, but only if they are paid under the table. This way they dont have to claim the money. So most Mexican families here have anywheres from 4-8 kids. Say for a family of 6 kids and two parents. They have a paid off house, plus the government is giving them right around $3000 a month for welfare and child benefit. In the summer just about everyday each person is bringing home right around $80 a day. Plus through the year the kids get free education, and free health care. So the mexican family all work at a minimum wage job, they have a full size house, and a new car for each kid in their family. Now isnt that nice.
And it is just not the mexicans, I blame my father for this one, but on the internet he started talking to this woman from Ukraine, and after talking for just over a year on here he went over there and visited her, he then went back a few months later and visited her again. He then brought her back over here along with her son. She lived with my father for free, he gave her his mercedes to drive, paid for all the groceries, and she wouldnt work around the house, and wouldnt even get a job to help pay for anything. My dad put up with her kid who wouldnt lift a finger at our house, and stole from all of us and wrecked everything he got his hands on. The kid would have a new friend every two weeks because he would lie or steal from them and wouldnt be welcome at their house anymore. After putting up with everything from this kid not working, being a slob, stealing, lieing and not even keeping himself clean for a year and a half my dad told him to get the %$#@ out of our house. The kid left and of course his mom left with him. They went to a womens shelter where they took her in and gave her free food, clothes, board and took care of everything. She doesnt have to work, she gets a bus ride everyday for free 2 hours away to learn english. And the government still gives her $600 a month welfare plus another $200 for child benefit. And all she has to buy with that money is food, after that she can spend it on whatever, she doesnt have to pay rent, she has no phone, hydro, gas bills at all because the shelter takes care of it all. Since my dad brought her over here, he is responsible for her. So now a year after she left, he finds out that he has to pay all the money back to the shelter, for her rent, clothes, phone, hydro and gas that she used in the apartment that the shelter gave her. So once again, isnt that nice....

To all the people who say we can't get along with out illegal aliens from Mexico doing our "dirty work," I have a question: Who cleaned hotel rooms and picked fruit 50 years ago, before hordes of Mexicans started sneaking into our country?
Welfare benefits are too easy to come by for those irresponsible Americans with no desire to work hard to straighten out their lives. The Mexicans, who don't know what welfare is, are willing and anxious to do this work. However, after a generation their attitude changes, too. Just look at the growing Mexican gang problem in California and other border states. Gang bangers sure aren't willing to toil in the hot sun.
Powerful industries (food processing & agriculture to name just two) are primary benefactors of cheap "illegal labor" so these concerns pour money into the pockets of key political decision makers who promise to push for illegal alien amnesty legislation.
This is very short sighted for various reasons. Among them is the fact ilegal aliens are responsible for a disproportionate amount of the crimes commited in our country, not to mention the escalating social service costs. And since they don't pay taxes, we pay their expenses. Remember, nobody is weeding out the really bad ones at the border when they enter the country illegally.
It's high time American immigration regulations were strictly enforced. Employers who flaunt the law should be severely punished. We also need to upgrade our Social Security card so it can not be so easy to forge. We're still issuring the same kind of card that was used 60 years ago. It needs to go high tech so every Ricardo, Jose and Hector can't get away with a phony one bought off the street.
The United States can not absorb every improverished Mexican who seeks a better life. Not if we want to preserve our culture heritage. Already the standard of living for ordinary Americans is being diminished because of unchecked illegal immigration. Our immigration policy needs to be balanced so that the majority of immigrants isn't coming from one country or region -- Central America.
Mexican poverty is the result of a corrupt society which breeds more people than it can absorb. That is not the fault of the United States. Therefore it is imperative that we force the Mexican government to deal with their own problems rather than using the United States as a dumping ground.
Another important thing we could do to discourage illegal immigration is to decline citizenship to any child born in this country whose parents are illegal immigrants.
One further point. As one who has done business in Mexico for a number of years, I wish to point out that most of the influential people in that country look a lot like Americans. For example the man who read the news on Mexican national tv for over 25 years had blonde hair and blue eyes, and his surname was Polish. People of European heritage understand the advantages of a good education. However this is a value they have never bothered to share with the aboriginal or peasant population of their own country. This is the root of the problem Mexico faces.
