I read an article once that said Easter co-incided(sp?) with the Druid rite of the Spring Soltice, and that the eggs and such were adopted as a way of incorperating some of the Druid symbolizm into the holiday.
For the same reason, an evergreen( another Druid symbol) was adopted into the Christmas celebration..
I thought the easter egg hunt was a non-christian celebration of spring and fertility
Yes, being a pagan myself and having studied much of the history of these holidays to try to discern the facts from authors' and the public's opinions, these statements are pretty much right on the money.

That being said, as far as changing his name from Easter Bunny to Spring Bunny... that's just plain stupid. My five-year-old doesn't get her feelings hurt as easily as some people.

Without saying anything one way or the other, if you are interested in how it actually happened, so far as the date changes to coincide with the pagan events, do a search on Google for the Council of Nicea and Consentine. The factual information is out there without taking it third hand. The dates were agreed on at Nicea, one of the main subjects, weather to use the Eastern dates deriving from the Jewish or to use the Roman dates.
