Yamaha Grizzly axles
OK, question for all of you ATV folks out there. I've got a 2003 Yamaha Grizzly 660 4x4. I've read that the '03s were a bad year for weak axles on the Grizzly...and those findings were verified yesterday. I put a lift and 27" Kenda Executioners on it yesterday (looks sweet, pics to come) and managed to snap the outboard left rear CV joint after a few hours of playtime. The demise came while doing donuts in some thick mud.
So what's the recommendations on CV joint/axle replacements? I've heard of Gorilla axles, but wanted to see if there were others as well.

Gorrilla is probably your best bet for the $$. They are still high, but not compared to others. Obviously there is no un-breakable axle, but I have seen the Gorilla's put through the ringer.
Or, you could put toyota axles and 44" Boggers under it like we did my best friend's arctic cat.....

I'll have to see pics of that Cat with the boggers. A buddy of mine sent me some pics of an ATV running 35s...just crazy.
As I've been searching, I've seen some rebuild kits. Anyone have any input on these as well?
I'm thinking that if I go Gorilla, I'll do both rears at the same time since the other one will probably break as soon as I try at donut to the right (this one was going left).

If you look on E-bay you can buy some axles that are the same as Gorillas for 1/2 the price. www.thecvman.com I am going to get some later on since I would like to run a 3" lift along with 29.5" Outlaws

Nice...found a link earlier for some stuff from THECVMAN on eBay. Anyone running these? I like the price, just don't want to have to keep buying them.

Ive got 26" Mud Lite XTRs on my new 700 grizz. I just bought the machine a week ago so I dont know how well the axles on it will hold up. I did take the tires off my wifes 04 grizz and gave her my factory stockers for now. She had around 1500 miles on them with absolutly no problems at all. I have pulled a 8000 pound barge box full of corn with them on her 04 and it dident break anything. Granted I dident pull it vary far maybe 30 feet back into its storage spot, but all 4 tires where diging trenches in the dirt and then spinning on the pavement when I got to it. I have heard they changed the axles in 04 so maybe a set of stock 04 or newer ones would hold up for ya. If ya search maybee you can find someone lifting there newer grizz and willing to part with the stock axles cheap.
Nevermind all of the above. I re-read your post and sig and realized you already lifted it. Your probobly gona need something other than stock to hold up.

Yeah, it's just an '03 thing. The ATV boards say that the other years don't have the issues, just the '03. Lucky me, that's what I have. My buddy has had two '02s, both with lifts and mud tires and never snapped one, that's why he was surprised when mine let go.

Here is a link to it on youtube.
I pulled the Link - Profanity in Comments.
Admins: I watched it again and did not see anything that would warrant it being taken down and no bad language in the video. Sorry if I missed something.
If you notice it floats most of the way through. We have since watered the tires and put hydrolic steering on it which made it alot better. It was suprisingly easy to steer at first, but once we watered the tires, steering quickly became as issue.
This video was from back in the winter. The guy driving it is obviously the owner. He and I grew up together and he owns the local Arctic Cat dealership here.
