That must be one mighty high toll to pay for a bridge in three years. When money is borrowed to pay for roads and bridges, the bonds are generally at least 10 years and often much longer.

The per mile charge should be based on the weight of the vehicle. Heavier vehicles do more damage to the roads.

Right now, the gas tax on a Cummins pickup is around 2 to 3 cents per mile in most statees. 3 cents for each mile traveled would not be a big deal. I don't see why odometer readings would not suffice except that GPS could track what state the vehicle is in.

Now, the $2 per mile tax proposed in Britain is an outrage, but they already pay big bucks for the privilege of driving.

I would just love to have a government sponsored GPS unit hidden in my vehicle. Of course, if the Insurance Companies have anything to do with it, the GPS will tattle on us for speeding, or show where stolen vehicles are.

Texas politicians must have learned well from our overtolled friends up in NJ!
Austin TX. is headed for a real raping with 113miles of toll roads per million people!
http://www.austintollparty.com/Summa...ntProposal.pdf
About the only "free" road left in Austin is going to be I-35 corridor which most everyone knows has already become a wonderful 6 lane parking lot way too much of the time.

Yet another means to forcibly reach into our back pockets and help themselves.
They get us coming, going AND sitting still... Vehicle sales tax, fuel tax, license/registration fees, vehicle inspection fees, Tire tax and disposal fees, battery tax and disposal fees,(emissions testing fees), way overpriced mandatory auto insurance premiums and now TOLL fees...
I just can't friggin' wait!
