is it worth $80 to list your vehicle FS on E-bay?

the wife has tired of her mid life crisis jeep,
and we work together now, so we only need one 4x4 to drive the ragged roads in SC.

i've got it on Auto Trader for $15 for a basic ad, and
a few free sites:
http://charleston.craigslist.org/car/91369569.html

"eBay charges sellers a $40.00 insertion fee at the time of listing, and a Transaction Services Fee at the time of the first bid on your listing. "

"Transaction Services Fee is charged when the reserve price is met
Passenger Vehicles $40.00 "

do cars sell on there? the cars i look at never seem to do anything.

we'd really like to dump it before the next months payment....arrgg...

should I waste $40?
the second 40 won't charge unless it sells, because i'd set the reserve at my payoff, which is cheaper than any other Rubicon UL i've seen advertised.

i must be getting old, because i hate swapping cars any more.

??

How much do you want for the Rubicon? I have sold a few vehicles on ebay. I guess the best answer I can off is: "it depends".

I like to avoid the hundred phone calls and tire kickers that classifieds brings. i waste time with 20 people looking at something that they can't afford. Then someone offers far less than it was for sale for and I give in just to be rid of it. With ebay, you list it and pay the $40. Set up a reserve price (minimum that you will let it go for). Start the bidding cheap, like $1000. You have a reserve, so it won't sell for $1000, but that price entices people and costs less for the listing fee.

You never know what it will sell for, but consider the fact that you don't have to waste as much time as having test drivers, etc. You also have a guaranteed sale when someone wins the bid, instead of worrying that someone will buy it, take it around the block, and want thewir money back. On ebay, they bid, they own it. Period. No hassles.

You never know, it might sell for even more than you planned. We sold a '97 4 cyl. TJ that was bought from someone in Arkansas who drove all the way up to get it. We got what we wanted, and he couoldn't believe the deal he got, because prices down there are crazy for Jeeps.

You want a couple of thousand people to see it in 7 days? Then list it. Be 100% honest about condition and your knowledge of the vehicle. Get the picture pack, I think it's like 12 pics, take shots of the engine compartment, odometer, interior, etc. I like to search what I am thinking of selling, then steal standardized info on the model. There is more than likely a dealer that has made up a sheet on the specs and other facts of the particualr model (cut and paste).
It's not a waste of $40.00. I bought a 4 wheeler, trailer and other pretty high dollar items after the auction ended when the items never sold to the real high bidder and such, so there is still a chance to get out of the final fee's.

Good Luck.

Local college kids in the mountains love those and parents are shoppng for 4wd where I live right now. Parents are using college loans so one year olds are popular. Did I understand you to say you would sell it for the payoff?

One more thing, hows the heater output when the outside temps are in single digits? Soft tops aren't that tight are they?

yeah, i only need $24250 or so
it's the rubicon unlimited (extra storage space for college stuff)
and air lockers (it will go thru most anything)
and the puncture resistant sidewalls, so your kid ain't on the side of the highway with a flat tire.

got a cassette/CD combo (out of a ram) so they can listen to sermons on cassette, i'll even throw in a dozen.

i wonder if the Charleston autotrader 300 mile reaches Boone?

i got family in morganton, i could have it up there tonite

My kids already graduated. Sorry. Here's a link that has a great classified section and it's free to locals (paid for by advertisters) The Mountain Times
Give it a shot and God's speed.
Nat
I doubt your edition reaches Boone, but you can bet they're some kids from your area up here.

I always watch vehicles sell on eBay, and before I bought my truck I bid on quite a few.

I think that eBay is a great place to sell the collectible vehicles that are impossible to find local- if you look at all of the old 442's, GSX's, Javelins, International Travelalls, Gremlins, AMX's, vintage Chevy trucks, Marlins, etc. on sale at eBay, then those all sell really well.

But if you're selling something on eBay, and it's possible for somebody to just go out to a used car lot withing 40 miles and find something identical, then I don't think it's worth it. But I've never looked for anything common on eBay; that's just not what it's for.

I’ve never sold a vehicle on ebay but I have sold a Jet Ski and a couple of ATVs. I would say use it. $80 doesn’t sound bad at all for a relatively high price vehicle. I have bought and sold a LOT of things on ebay and so far I haven’t had any problems.

When I sold my Jet Ski I listed it for the minimum that I would take for it. I ended up surpassing that minimum by several hundred dollars. I NEVER run reserve price auctions and I don’t understand the concept behind it. I won’t even look at a reserve price auction. It is as simple as this… just list it for the absolute minimum that you are willing to accept for that item (which would be your reserve price). If it sells great, if not, rethink your price.

I also put in the listing that I would travel 150 miles in any direction from Little Rock. This would put me at the state line in any direction. I ended up meeting the person that bought the Jet Ski in Memphis. I would also recommend that you only accept payment in the form of a Cashiers Check (but you probably knew that).

You can try it but my guess is that you won't get your reserve price. I agree with the comment that you have better luck on Ebay with hard to find vehicles.

Good luck

Be skeptical of cashier's checks as well. Call the issuing bank to verify. I received a fake check for the wrecked celica I am trying to sell. I called to bank to verify and they called back, someone from the securities dept there and said it is fake. The address, routing number were real, and it even had the watermark. So just be careful.

Autotrader has a 'run 'til it sells' for about 70.00 if I remember.

Maybe, maybe not. Up here Rubicons are considered "hard to find vehicles" and I frequently see used ones selling for close to new prices. The Rubi Unlimited would be especially tempting to someone.

04CTD,

Let me know how much you want for it (PM me) and I'll post a thread on a Jeep group that I'm on. Its a Cherokee list, but these guys know all kinds of Jeep owners, and many of them even own other Jeep models.

Jim, done. tks.

The Rubi UL is a "hard to find" vehicle because everyone bought them at the EP, and now they are gone.

a dealership offered me 22,500 for it last month, they had it sold already,

but it was too far away, i owe 24,500 on it, stickered 29,900 or so, invoice 27900 or so, got military rebates and some more $$ off to get it that cheap.

we like it and get a lot of use out of it (rains & stands here every day) but the wife got a job on base with me, so no need for her to have a DD now.
