Working out the bugs

I was planning on a new dodge truck mid to late next year. but with the emission changes and associated problems, I was wondering how long it usually takes dodge to work the bugs out of a new truck? It also sounds like the 5.9 may be going away to be replaced with the 6.7? What are the differences in the two engines dimensionally? (same stroke, more bore?

I wont buy early in the year model, I will wait till they are ready to start dealing.

Well let's see. The injection pumps and lift pumps for the 2nd gens have been out for the last 8 1/2 years now or so and they still ain't fixed that?

I think that the new engine for 07 is just a stroked 5.9 liter, but there's probably a bit of bore added too. Supposedly, however, most of the displacement will be coming from a longer stroke.

I haven't heard that the engine will be different apart from the displacement; as in, I haven't heard of it having new fueling or controlling systems. However, it is supposed to have a bunch of emissions stuff. Then again, I haven't heard of a lot of things...

How long did it take Dodge to fix the VP-44?

If I were you I'd wait a few months to make sure the 6.7 isn't a 6.0-style debacle no matter what. Then again, if I were you, I would just buy a bunch of goodies for the truck that you have now.

EDIT: Wait a second, do you even have a truck? (No, Frontier's don't qualify as "truck".) In that case, if I were in you're shoes I would either be terminally depressed or GOING OUT and BUYING A TRUCK right NOW.

Make fun of me, would you... Little guy doesn't even have a Cummins yet...

The first Gen 3 trucks has periphrial problems the first years
Apparently the lift pumps are an ongoing problem (what are they doing everywhere else?)

It will be after summer before I can buy anyway.

The new 6.7 L is larger in both bore and stroke than the current 5.9 platform. It's supposed to be a new block, not a bored and stroked 5.9. It is HPCR and has a VGT plus the other emissions stuff.. EGR and particulate filter.

so we are also looking at new heads, exhaust manifolds, and other parts.

is the particulate filter a consumable?

With the right mixture of oxygen and acetylene, all of that emissions stuff is consumable.

I was thinking more along the lines of if the filter was an item to replace every oil change like the fuel filter, oil filter, and what ever else gets changed.

I think it's a new engine so I suppose yes is the answer.....

The particulate filter is designed to be self-cleansing but will have to be replaced eventually(I think 100,000 miles). Supposedly, sensors will tell the engine to fuel harder to produce higher EGT's to burn up the particulates in the filter to clean it.

Give em a break, most people go well beyond 100k on a stock injection pump.. If the parts in stock form go beyond their warranty then theres nothing for them to fix!
