Here's something to keep in the back of your mind; Yanmars are the same thing as John Deeres. Actually, it's the other way around. I forget what the HP limit is, but up to maybe 40 HP, the JD's are made by Yanmar. Used to put them together for a dealership I worked for. Had to do the one day factory assembly seminar and they showed the pics of both tractors being made on the same line until they got to the paint stage where the Yanmar went one way for red paint and the JD went the other for green. Yanmar wasn't giving JD some of the 'nice' features at the time either. You could get a shuttle shift with a Yanmar but not the JD for instance. Yanmar makes some BIG stuff too and has for years, mostly marine apps.

Morning all. Cold here and windy.

Today is Monday, December 13th. Only 11 days and 15 hours 'til Christmas.

On this day in 1636 - The United States National Guard was created when militia regiments were organized by the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

1642 - New Zealand was discovered by Dutch navigator Abel Tasman.

1769 - Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire, received its charter.

1809 - The first abdominal surgical procedure was performed in Danville, KY, on Jane Todd Crawford. The operation was performed without an anesthetic.

1862 - In America, an estimated 11,000 Northern soldiers were killed or wounded when Union forces were defeated by Confederates under General Robert E. Lee, at the Battle of Fredericksburg.

1913 - The Federal Reserve System was established as the first U.S. central bank.

1937 - Japanese forces took the Chinese city of Nanking (Nanjing). An estimated 200,000 Chinese were killed over the next six weeks. The event became known as the "Rape of Nanking."

1944 - During World War II, the U.S. cruiser Nashville was badly damaged in a Japanese kamikaze suicide attack. 138 people were killed in the attack.

1964 - In El Paso, TX, President Johnson and Mexican President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz set off an explosion that diverted the Rio Grande River, reshaping the U.S.-Mexican border. This ended a century-old border dispute.

1993 - The European Community ratified a treaty creating the European Economic Area (EEA), to go into effect January 1, 1994.

2000 - U.S. Vice President Al Gore conceded the 2000 Presidential election to Texas Gov. George W. Bush. The Florida electoral votes were won by only 537 votes, which decided the election. The election had been contested up to the U.S. Supreme Court, which said that the Florida recount (supported by the Florida Supreme Court) was unconstitutional.

2000 - Seven convicts, the "Texas 7," escaped from Connally Unit in Kenedy, TX, southeast of San Antonio, by overpowering civilian workers and prison employees. They fled with stolen clothing, pickup truck and 16 guns and ammunition.

2001 - The U.S. government released a video tape that showed Osama bin Laden and others discussing their knowledge of the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.

2001 - U.S. President George W. Bush served formal notice to Russia that the United States was withdrawing from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.

2001 - Michael Frank Goodwin was arrested and booked on two counts of murder, one count of conspiracy and three special circumstances (lying in wait, murder for financial gain and multiple murder) in connection to the death of Mickey Thompson. Thompson and his wife Trudy were shot to death in their driveway on March 16, 1988. Thompson, known as the "Speed King," set nearly 500 auto speed endurance records including being the first person to travel more than 400 mph on land.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
For Christmas, they say it's the thought that counts, so this year I'm just doing a lot of thinking about getting some people some cool stuff.

Coffee is already made, so I'm not going to fool with it. It's still a liquid tho, so how good can it really be?

Short of a snowcat most thing won't. Don't be too disappointed. Come to think of it, you don't see that many "K" cars still running, let alone performing above expectations.

You mean it was broke and free!!! That will never do. I wouldn't do this for everybody but I guess I need to go get that piece of junk out of the driveway before you get home. You know how the women folk get concerned about us having too many 'projects' sitting around.

Hey, you promised you wouldn't tell anybody! Just for that, I'm sending that pair of stone sandals you used to wear to the Smithsonian.

Morning folks. Got pretty chilly here last night. The wind is still cutt'n up so the high for today is 32 and the windchill at 0630 was +8 locally, +1 in NW Alabama.

Morning folks, looks like its been colder south than north. 50* here yesterday with 3.5" of rain and another 1-2" forecasted for today. Glad it's not snow. Back the teens Tuesday.

Off to solve some problems and create some others.

Ya'll have a good day.

His tractor spent most of it's life parked outside and not taken care of (Dad isn't too big on keeping the PM's done on his equipment.) His tractor was built in 89 and he's had it since 91. Only issues it had was a seal leaking on one of the front spindles, rear PTO drips, and it had some dirty fuel in it once and it plugged up the filter. It's really been a good tractor. I actually did some work to the hood last winter, dad smashed it a few years ago by dropping something on it. And last year I took a snow plow and fabbed it to work on the tractor.

An old neighbor of mine had a JD lawn tractor with the Yanmar diesel, he loved it. From what I've seen some of the lawn/garden tractors with diesel are yanmar and the diesel utility tractos are too.

Evening DTR.

Snow is still coming down and the wind stopped. I bet we have about 8 inches on the ground and it's going to keep snowing over night. We have a drift on the deck behind the house that was almost up to my wifes hips. Neighbor down the road had a 6 foot drift in front of their house. The wifes boss told her to stay home form work today since most of the roads were closed due to the snow drifting.

evening all..

got a question for the gear heads.
why does the auto industry STILL use vacuum logic? they are such a pain. I could see it back in the olden days, its cheap power that is inverse to where the engine makes power... but today, we have much better sources.

Everything that deere makes that is small has Yanmar motors, Yanmar also makes small straight three and four gas motors for deere. Turf equipment made by deere is solely yanmar power. Good engines for the most part, have seen a failed head gasket on a couple. Had on that was run out of oil and the #2 connecting rod let loose, the motor still ran just smoked and was rough running.
