Winter Beater

Hey there, well Im am going through my first winter with the Dodge and it does really good, I love driving it, but we get 2 inches of snow here and they lay down 6 inches of Salt. After this winter is over I really dont want to put the Cummins through another winter like this, its just too hard on it and I dont want to see it rust away, no matter how much I oil it. I was wondering what is a good vehicle that I could pick up cheap to drive for the 3 months of Salt we have here. I was looking at a light lil 4x4 SUV such as a Jeep CJ, a Suzuki Samurai, etc etc. What do you guys think?

Or should I just move up north where they just drive slower and put up with the snow instead of laying down millions of pounds of rust-causing salt?

Thanks.

The trick is to find something cheap and little that you can still manage to have fun with some time.

I think a little 4X4 Suzuki or cheap as all get out thing would be perfect. 4X4 for the snow that you can make into a dune buggy later...

I think AMC Eagles make good sand rails, don't they?

The salt has got to be bad in Ontario. Here in B.C. they say never ever buy a auto from there cause it is going to be rusty or rusted out soon.

What about an older Toyota or Nissan 4x4 truck? Not too big, still 4x4 and should be inexpensive.

That is one of the trucks i'm trying to find, a toyota or something close to that. They last forever and get decent mileage and can go about anywhere.

Oh ya, forgot to mention that, whatever I get should be descent in the snow and general offroad because on boring nights I might just have to take her field and trail bombing. The only thing I am worried about is I imagine those things roll alot easier than the trusty Dodge.

In the summer months I will probably take this thing apart and coat mostly anything I can with some of that POR 15 and just generally beef things up. Make her kind of a dune buggy like mentioned above.

So for the list so far, I got

Older Jeep- CJ
Suzuki Samurai
AMC Eagle
Toyota Pickup
Nissan Pickup

Is there any other vehicles I should look at, is there any prefences of models of the above vehicles as far as trannys and engines. I really want a stick shift and something that gets good mileage too.

Thanks.
