Wow...for once a thread has gotten completely out of hand and I had NOTHING to do with it. I'm with Scotty...let's talk about George Foreman grills.

After the smile on my face this morning, I can just imagine the smiles on the faces of the victims families. Now, he can appeal his case to a Higher Power.

I dunno if I agree with the death penalty. Now don't y'all go getting your knickers in a twist, because my view has nothing to do with liberal or conservative viewpoints, but more from wondering if death isn't actually more of a freedom than most people believe.

I think most people view being put to death as 'paying the ultimate price'. And granted, it removes the wicked and degenerates from our society so we no longer have to worry about them again. But once they're put to death, their troubles are over. Yes, I believe they will have to answer to a higher power, but how do we know they haven't already answered to that power for their crimes by being imprisoned while they were still alive? Sitting in prison for years on end, wondering if and when you're going to die, HAS to take a tremendous toll on a person. And a lot of these people WANT to die, so we're giving them what they want. What kind of punishment is THAT?

Now I'm not saying we should 'support' them forever by keeping them imprisoned either. I don't know what the answer is. But if there's any chance they're being 'freed' by being put to death, then I don't think that is the answer either. I guess I kinda lean towards the 'cruel and unusual punishment' methods of paying for their crimes.

No way would I ever want to go to prison, but no doubt it's not the "hell on earth" it used to be. How many times have you heard or read about crooks still running their illegal operations from inside prison? To me, it's like someone that is suddenly handicaped....it take some time to accept it and get used to it, but then you deal with it.
If you can believe the national media, they are reporting that he went out just like he really was....defiant and unruly.

When I was growing up, my dad was a cop, and I remember what the jails (and cops) were like then. Now, my son-in-law is a Detention Officer at a fairly large facility, and it's NOTHING like "the old days".
