Who else has had knee surgery??
I just had surgery yesterday to fix a miniscal tear in my left knee. I am very supprised that I have little to no pain today. Doc says crutches until Tuesday and then getting better quickly. Anybody else have this done and how quick was the recovery?

I hope your Doc didn't do the medievil surgery and remove a big chunk of the meniscus.... - that leaves you more bone-on-bone, and DOES become painful over time.
...I had mine done 13 Oct 2003, was walking without crutches two days later, and hunting a little over two weeks later (not the sit-in-a-stand type hunting, this involved strapping on 50 lbs of gear and walking up nasty-terrain mountains)

He removed a small section (he said) because it was too damaged to sew back together. I'm glad to hear your recovery was quick. I am hopeing to throw the crutches aside this weekend.
In the little over 3 years have you had any pains or other problems?

The knee is starting to bother me when I "overuse" it - which is becoming easier to do every year -
I worked with a guy who had the meniscus' removed from BOTH knees in two separate surgeries 10 years ago - now he can barely walk, and is becoming far too familiar with pain meds to help out; I hope he finds SOME way to correct his pain, it doesn't seem to be a stretch that they could devise SOME kind of pad to replace the meniscus?
AFTER I had my surgery, I spoke with someone who had the same tear in her meniscus - her Dr. indicated that the meniscectomy was a LONG outdated treatment, and that in 90% of the cases, the tear was repairable and was the best solution....

My doctor said sometimes it is better to remove it due to some repairs end up tearing again and then it gets cut out anyway. 2 surgeries instead of one. He did say if it is repaired very soon after the tear occurs, it is very successful. I had about a month of walking before surgery and too much damage was done to repair. I guess knowledge is key and knowing what the future might bring I will take better care of my knees!!

i injured my knee while skiing about 3 years ago and had to have surgery but i kept putting it off until about 2 years ago i had to get it done. i had partial torn my acl, tore the meniscus, and tore some soft tissue. lucky when i went in for the surgery the meniscus had healed on its own but i still have the partial torn acl til this day. i have to warn you stay on the crutches for a week don't rush it to much. i was walking on mine in 2 days but i should have let it heal a little more before pushing it.

Stepped off a bundle of 6" pipe at work several years ago and tore the cartilege in my right knee. Was off work about two months.
Its fully healed but when the weather is cold or I over use it, Im reminded that Im no spring chicken.

I have had 4 knee surguries my first one was bad was actually in surgury for 7 hours and in the hospital for 8 days took 6 months to rebilitate, had another follow up on that knee than blew my other knee snowmobile jumping and had a couple to get that knee "fixed" but I tore a bunch of cartilage in that knee a couple months ago doc says only 30% chance os success so I said screw it but my knee painfully pops every single time I get out of my truck.

Not yet but it seems like everyone around me is. My wife has an appointment in may with the surgeon to get hers fixed after being on the waiting list for 3 years. Afreind of mine goes in next week for a whole new knee, he will be out of comission for 6 weeks.

water filled tractor tire was my reason, tore acl, meniscus, screwed up lower muscle, and had a 1/4 crack right down the middle of the lower bone. with just the meniscus it dosn't take long to recover although Ill agree with skynyrd and don't rush the crutches if you do just take it easy

My brother-in-law is in the recovery room right now. He had a bunch if pieces floating around that were giving him grief. Doc says off work 2 weeks and then light duty for 2 months, otherwise he'll be lame in 2 years or less. Got my attention!

Sounds like you had it scoped. Not a bad surgery at all. I was scoped, then CUT!!!! I tore my left knee ACL in half. I didn't have any torn cartlidge. That was back in 1993. 5 years in the gym and the knee was better, strongger, and SLOWER. My right knee is the one that is giving me a fit know because I still favor my left. I goofed my right knee up perty good last summer. I layed off of it for a couple of months and it is good as new(used).

Man, after these responces I feel better now! I have been told to stay on the crutches by a fewother people here in the office so I will take the advise and continue until doc say to stop using them. I guess feeling younger than my real age had me thinking "I'm good to go" I do not want to go back any time soon or ever if possible. Thanks for the tips guys.

No knee surgery but did have neck surgery two years ago and got a really cool titanium plate in my neck with four dry wall screws holding it in. No pain after the surgery and no drugs. Man, things have changed. Good luck and don't overdo it.

Been there and done more. Had the knee scoped years ago and it was fine for about 15 years. It started going bad again so it was replaced last Aug. Best thing I've ever done. Well next to buying a CTD, that is.
