This locomotive will be on display in Roseville, CA at the UP rail yard tomorrow Saturday, April 18 from noon-3:00, then on April 25 from 10-6. It'd be fun to watch that bad boy climb the Sierra Nevada.

Hmmm, wonder why its ok for the railway industry to get away with making smoke like that and yet its totally not ok for diesel truck owners to do the same....

I'm gonna ride behind her next week. Oakland to Stockton. Should be fun...

Why don't they smog steamers? Because there are only a handful left. But I've had folks complain about the smoke that our steam locomotive occasionally puts out.

Nice Videos! I love the sounds of a steam locomotive running full bore. My favorite steam locomotive is the UP 4-8-8-4 Big Boy. Here's a video about the Big Boy.

I saw that show too. It was History Channel extrem trains. They take the Steam Locomotive out once a year to go to a rodeo show. It was cool people dress up like in the old western times.

It was the steam train episode.
The Union Pacific's famous 844 steam locomotive, built in 1944, is the longest-running steam train in America. It still runs on UP's mainlines today. Matt rides the 844 on its annual outing, taking 750 rail fans from Denver to the biggest rodeo in the world in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This train is so popular that traffic jams form along the tracks when it runs, as people "chase the train." This episode also looks at the gold rush of the 1850s.
