I actually made a bit of money on our second child, he was born on Dec. 31, 2001, got to claim him for the child tax refund, which at that time I think was $600. I figure that will be the only money I'll ever make on either of my kids. [/B]
I know what you mean about the only time you make money on them.
I;ve got 2 with Dec.31'st as thierB-day.
1 in 1983 and 1 in 1993.
The last one had me sweating.
He was born with only 29 min. to spare
I was rooting Mama on.
The nurses thought I was a monster.
They wanted to slow things down and told me that if we had the New Years baby we would get our pic. in the paper free diapers a free car seat.
I told them they were crazy I have had my pic. in the paper ,I've got diapers , and a car seat
I want a TAX DEDUCTION !!

So I wasn't the most popular Dad at the hosp. that nite.

But I got my deduction and wouldn't give him back for anything.

What tax refund
We useually come close to not oweing. Like Phox said why do you want to let the Gov. use your money interest free. Man if you have a hard time saving for vacations, toys, or what ever get with a financial planner & make your money work for you. Even if you have an automatic withdrawl of a small amount you'll be money ahead. I'm having $875.00 a month taken out of my check each month because we need the tax deduction.

Just brought the little cook home from the hospital today. (white or wheat toast? ) He's a premie, 3 lbs 12 oz at birth 2/8, 6.5 weeks early. (The deduction for 03 was a longshot)

He wants me to spend our refund on upgrading my next ram from a SLT to a Laramie. Wait until he finds out only the front seats are heated.

I bet your story has come up at that hospital every New Years Eve since.

1st nurse: "Remember that guy that was worried about getting a dependent?"

2nd nurse: "How could I forget him?"

3rd nurse: "I wasn't here then, what happened???"

1st nurse: "Well, about 10 years ago, this jerk ........"

I've never understood people who get excited about a tax refund. It was your money the whole time, not a present from Uncle Sam.
Mine's normally like that too, but the tax cuts and raising my 401k contribution bumped my refund up a bit.

Wifey suggested a workshop for my birthday for my Ram and my Terraplane, but I have to put it together. It's 28 x 24 and under construction.

Tax refund??

Well, had the nasty little thing done today and although I didn't have to pay, I didn't come out too far ahead either. They say that is the trick...you just want to break even, but it would be nice to have a little more than what I got!!

Take the wife out to a nice supper. She deserves it for putting up with me all the time.

Buy some toys for the kids...they need it too.

Get myself some chewing gum. That is about all there will be left!
But you got to take care of the family...

Aux fuel tank and a BD X-Monitor.

The tax cuts, upping my 401K and redoing my 2nd helped a lot.

I'm with ya Wannadiesel I found out when I was layed off in 1982-1983 HOW LITTLE HELP UNCLE SAM IS WHEN YOU'RE DOWN.
My way of thinking changed to the same stratagy owe a little at the end of the year, and enjoy your money each payday.
Also I read where the IRS would be more likely to aduit ya
if you are anywhere outside the plus or minus $300 range.
