What are your pet peeves?

We already have a general order addressing that. Prisoners excluded from trunk and anyplace other than passenger compartment. Well thought out and probably tried before my time!

wouldn't this kinda go along the lines of patroling working on crime instead of sitting at the end of the bridge guard rail waiting on someone going 5 mph over the speed limit???
Now I know some police agencies have people dedicated to traffic laws. but not the agencies that have three cops.
Now I know some police agencies have people dedicated to traffic laws. but not the agencies that have three cops.
I have always wanted to tell folsk who say that sort of thing:
First.. Speeding IS a crime, so if I just stopped you for speeding, then, why yes, I HAVE caught a criminal........ and somewhere around 90% of the felony arrests made on the street(without a warrant ) are made during traffic stops for minor violations
Second, If you have the ability to psychicly(sp) tell me where the next "big" crime is about to be committed, I'd be more than happy to turn my badge over to you...my driving around is your tax dollars going out the tail pipe.. and I am limited in most places on how many miles I can put on my car per shift, due to citizens complaining that we spend too much money "just cruising" around...
Third, I have worked far more fatality traffic accidents than I have murders...
maybe I should be spending my most of my time doing what is MOST IMMEDIATLY PRODUCTIVE TO THE SAFETY OF THE COMMUNITY.. not worrying about your getting upset that I might not be "working hard enough" ......
Not singling FO out.. but I get irked at all the "arm chair' quarterbacks out there who expect me to
A) be able to explain and justify everything every other cop in teh world has done...
B) expect me to know all of the 1500 some-odd officers in the three county area by name and who is who's friend or relative
C) The people who read about the bad cops, and so lump all of us into one catagory without hesitation and will swear every cop in the world is a SOB and lazy crook
D) The folks who dont seem to think we deserve personel time, or a family life(look lady, I am off duty, out of uniform and I am NOT going to deal with your neighbor kids throwing rocks at your cat.. call dispatch.... )
Fronty, not picking on you....this is one of my buttons, can you tell?????

Since we are on the Police rant I have one that is stating to irk me. I have been a vol FF for around 10 years and my father and brother before me. Im tired of hearing that the majoritoy of fires are caused by vols looking for a rush. Last week at work my dad called the ems because he was having trouble breathing. Since he lives less that 5 miles away I responded. Since then I have heard the thing about the setting fires at least twice a day. Starting to get annoying.

Chrisreyn,
You folks do a GREAT job for all of us. Yea, there are a few that break the rules but they are the real exception.
My boys, 8 yo twins, love the uniforms. It's fun to run into an officer somewhere, like the fair, parade, or outing, and let them visit with him/her. Never once has an officer turned them away, they are always kind. Granted those who take things into their own hands have the opposite experience but that's on them.
This Thanksgiving season I am thankful for you and everyone who puts their life on the line every day so my family is safe.

Guess I'll jump in with mine.......
People that don't list where they are on the forums, and then ask questions like we know where they are.
Fuel prices.......The fuel companies here charge a min. of .25 cents a gallon to haul fuel from N.Pole to Delta roughly a 100 miles on 14,000 gallon load. To bad every trucking company don't make 35 bucks a mile.
Child proof lighters, Safety caps, and Warning labels....we are the only form of life on the planet that protects the stupid and allows/encourages them to multiply .
People that can't think outside the box they are in.....
Kinda like Churches

1) how about when someone pulls out infront of you forcing you to hit the brakes to avoid hitting them, when no one was behind you then they drive under the speed limit..
2) when people ride their road bikes on the white line and not on the 10 foot wide shoulder or sidewalk next to that.
3) people that dont have manners, which i tend to point out or LOOK before they cross the street..... ***!!

My irk against cops chasing speeder come primarily from two counties north of me. The county and city cops spend the vast majority of their time "patrolling" the interstate instead of taking care of county roads or city.
These two counties make the vast majority of their income from tickets on the interstate instead of investigating robberies, thefts, meth, or any of the problems that are plagueing this area.
I dont expect you to know where the next crime is going to happen, but when someone calls the police department with a gas drive off at the convience store. A better response than "we'll make a note of it and see what we can do" without ever asking for details is kinda expected.
